Mail day! I missed out on the blue crusade last week. This was my other option as it’s on my list of cards to get. I’m trying to collect most of the Luka Blues from chronicles in psa 10 or bgs 9.5. I have the blue Phoenix and blue elite as well.

Newcomer to BO, nice to meet everyone. I just discovered this thread last week and I'm so happy it exists. I've since since spent hours down the rabbit hole. It's cool to see how friendly everyone is, whether you're an expert or n00b, have a stacked Luka collection or a modest one, etc. Feels like everybody is just rooting for the same thing.

For me, I was fortunate enough to attend a Mavs/Warriors game last year where Luka hung like 30 points on my Dubs in the first half like it was nothing, and I was hooked. Over the next month I broke the bank to buy a few of his numbered cards, with little to know knowledge about the industry other than a belief that this kid was going to be singularly special. For my first purchase, I grossly overpaid for a a Blue RC Prizm PSA 10 ($9k in late Nov) - last night I had a good laugh reading posts on this thread from that night of my purchase, where people discussed the overpayment and wondered if the winning bid was even real. I guess it's easy for me to laugh about now given what Luka (and that card) have done since then. At around the same time I picked up a 2018 Flawless Vertical RPA and an Orange RC Prizm, which is where my small collection now stands.

Anyway, I have a question about the 2018 Flawless RPAs (technically not an RPA, I know). Try as I might, I've had a hard time getting a handle on how these 2018 Flawless RPAs are valued. A few of them have sold recently at vastly different price points. First, a non-graded Ruby Vertical /15 for $50k, having been bid up from 22k in the final seconds. Then, a non-graded Emerald Horizontal Star Swatch /5 for $75k, bid up from 50k in the final seconds. Then, a BGS 9.5 Ruby Horizontal /15 for $15k. And finally, a BGS 9.5 Base /25 Patch Auto for $26k.

Does anybody have a good model on how to understand value among these Flawless RPAs? I know that these cards are both beautiful and rare, which elevates personal preference as a factor and partially accounts for the the massive variance we see in prices. Based on previous threads and the recent market behavior, this is my best guess:
- Emerald > Gold > Ruby, mostly due to scarcity but perhaps also due to visual appeal
- Vertical > Horizontal
- Bigger patches > smaller patches
- PSA/BGS 9/9.5/10 > Sealed Panini Holder, but this distinction is much smaller than you might expect. So unless you're pretty certian the card will be graded Gem Mint, best not to break the Panini seal

Vertical > Horizontal > Patch quality (since they all have pretty sweet patches) for more people I think, but the fact these are game worn from his rookie seasons explodes the price. You might see a higher numbered or horizontal pop up and sell for more than "better" copies previously sold just because of the absolute rarity and game-worn aspect.

Welcome to LukaLand! Sweet pick ups.

I also have a Flawless Vertical RPA. NT has the reputation and maybe Flawless won't catch up, but I think there is good value in Flawless because it is the only game used RPA out there.

Your assessments are pretty spot on. The only thing with rare high-end Luka stuff is that it will rarely come up for sale, so the price can fluctuate a lot based on who sees it and who wants it. The next Flawless Vert /25 could go for anywhere between $40-60K and it wouldn't surprise me especially with Luka not playing for a few months.

Not sure why I would ever get banned but ok. I made 1 post with the intention of giving a small update on Luka's prices (since ya know that's pretty much the purpose of this thread) and for some reason, you took it as some sort of personal attack. Will it make you feel better if I say that even though his prices are dropping I believe they'll creep back up within the next few days/weeks?

I have some Luka, but I'm a clector not an investatard, so prices tanking back to reality (which is still a ridiculous level) don't bother me at all. It's funny because the only way the price manipulation crap stops, or even slows down, is if enough people get destroyed that they stop buying into the manipulation.

I hope Lukas drop even further so I can buy them again! Though, I probably wouldn't judge the Luka market on over printed Prizm alone.

I agree! The best cards to get are the numbered ones or the ones that are perceived to be less of (i.e. Courtside RC, Donruss Optic Holo RC, etc, etc...)

Killer card. I bought a raw version of this card and thought it had a great chance to gem, but got whammied and ended up with a 9. I am holding it for my Luka Blue PC too.

Congrats to you. There were three psa 10 up for past 2 weeks. I really wanted one, but wasn’t prepared to pay that much.

I own some teal parallels of other players, it’s a great looking card. That card was flying under the radar and it’s a pop 12.

Congrats again on the pick up. 2649 is not a ridiculous price because it seems like there is no such thing as overpaying for a Luka, especially a rare one.
