Default Package Damaged by Post Office Question

So this has never happened before and I was wondering what the recourse will end up being. I bought 5 Megas off Ebay and the package came in yesterday and attached was a letter from the Post Office apologizing for damage that happened. The box itself was shrink wrapped and when I took off the shrink wrap the box looked like something had spilled on it and was very wet on the bottom of the box. I opened the box and the first two Megas seemed ok, but whatever spilled seeped in and ruined the other 3 boxes. I had bought these to hold and keep sealed. I let the seller know, but no response, so I opened a return case for 3 of the boxes. My question is, will Ebay side with me even if the damage was done by the PO? The seller doesn't accept returns, but I mean I don't either and I've been forced to accept them. I feel like I should be covered by Ebay's money back guarantee and honestly I would hope they would be the ones to reimbursement since it doesn't seem to be the seller's fault. Here are some pics of the boxes and the box in question where the spill occured

Easy item arrived damaged win for you. Seller will have to recoup the loss by filing a claim with usps.

was it shipped with priority mail or insurance?

yeah agree with the other person i think you can return it as damaged via ebay and then the seller could maybe file something with post office.

that looks like some sauce or oil or something... must have been something else poorly packaged that broke near the package.

Was the package insured? I received a box from the USPS that had clearly been dropped a little while ago and damaged a corner of nearly every card in the box. The seller was less than helpful, but said it the package was insured so I just opened a case with the USPS and got a insurance check for the full amount without much trouble.

Yeah it seems like kind of oil or seems like because it has a STRONG smell.

Should be an easy return for you. Should also be an easy claim for the seller assuming he/she actually purchased insurance. Whether they did or didn't isn't your problem...you did your part. Good luck!

I don't think it was insured, sent First Class even though description had said it would be sent Priority

Insurance protects the seller not the buyer. The seller can require you to return all of them nit just damaged ones. Its the sellers responsibility to file insurance claim. Buyers have all insurance they need with ebay paypal and their cc

No you return them and let the seller take that risk. Seller is 100% liable

Also being received with a note from usps is no guarantee they will pay an insurance claim.

Man that sucks. Ordered a mega and It was stuffed inside a bubble mailer but miraculously, it wasn't damaged at all.

I would think the letter from the PO would actually help in a claim since they already admitted it was them.

yes - it will be an all or nothing thing probably. when you open the claim, just make sure to upload pictures that show the boxes unopened and damaged.

there is a chance the seller may not want to pay the return shipping and just let you keep them.

having pictures of them sitting inside the damaged outer box as they arrived would help as well

Nope had a 400 dollar item got delivered in a body bag and a oops we goofed sticker on it. Was in a bubble mailer inside a small priority box. Was delivered with what looked like a forklift tire track on it. They denied the claim because it was not packaged well enough to handle normal handling. Guess normal handling involves running over items

Because it was a quantity listing..the claim did ask how many i wanted to return so i put 3 so i don't think it's an all or nothing claim but we'll see

I had a card arrive a couple weeks ago that had been submerged in some sort of liquid that stunk like old beer or something. Card ended up being super damaged. Seller was cool though and issued a full refund.

Guessing the seller filed an insurance claim.

Sucks, it was a Select Courtside rookie that were going for double what I paid when I tried to find a replacement
