Default Surprise finds

I'll occasionally go back through my boxes of top-loaded cards looking for stuff that may have gone up in value. Last night I was pleasantly surprised by a couple Trouts that I had buried in a 4 row box. A 2012 Bowman blue #'d to 500 and a 2012 Prizm Rookie Relevance. Checked ebay and was actually a little shocked to see what they potentially could sell for. Especially the Prizm because the baseball community seems a little sour on Panini. A year or so ago I found a couple Betts Update Rookies that looked pretty nice while searching for some Yelich.
What is everyone else finding in their stuff that makes them happy?

I came across a Diamond 2011 Topps Update Anthony Rizzo that I forgot about. Looks pretty good and will probably grade. I got it at the national in '13 for $5.

Not baseball, but I found a Damian Lillard Prizm 9.5 base rookie in an old box. I never really did much with basketball but it was in a collection I bought. I found it when it was around $200 in sale value. I put off listing it and then it hit $600ish near the end of the regular season, and I sold it. Unfortunately it more than doubled the next week, but I took the money and ran. I think it was only work $25ish when I acquired it 5-6 years ago. Always nice to find that type of stuff!

Going thru my loard, I found some Ayton Prizm, and Ayton Select #/5, and a Lamar Jackson rated rookie.

All should grade out nicely.

Hoping they will pay for the majority of this months purchases. Series 1&2 1985 Alvarez 1/1's and a Bregman 1st Bowman auto from a Transcendent break.

I'll be heading to my mom's house later this month for her 60th. Will spend some time going through my cards I left there when I graduated. Mostly going to be junk wax, but last time I went through the 5K count box I found 2 '93 Topps Derek Jeter Rookies. One was a gold that graded 8.5.

Found a 2000 Topps Chrome Bonds refractor going through some boxes a couple days ago. Promptly sold it for $100 that day, surprising how much his cards have gone up

Responses like these are why I never get rid of my stuff. You never know what's going to be next weeks hot card!

The hoops side of the forum tells me it is a $1k card. Throw in the other Aytons...

I found this stash last week in my rookie boxes I had put away after I had (unsuccessfully) done a few shows in ATL years ago. This entire lot could have been yours in 2015 for the grand total of.... $30.50

and yes, most are on their way to PSA now.

I stopped collecting in 1997 and when I started dipping my toes back in around 2005 I went back through my old stuff and found rookies of Jeter and Kobe among others.

The Kobe RC's hurt the most because I got just a little bit of 1996-97 basketball product before my dad banned me from buying cards anymore - yeah, i would be one of those lifetime never took a break collectors had pops not shut it down - anyway, the timing of the shutdown couldn't have been worse. I missed out on all that great late 90's gold. Argh.

I'm far too organized for something like this to happen now. Someone takes off and I'm like "I have rookies of him" and go right into my boxes and pull them out. No more surprises coming my way.

It’s nothing crazy, but I came across this. I didn’t know Michael Brosseau was having a pretty good season. I actually pulled this in a pack when it came out.

2020 Topps Series 1 Michael Brosseau (Mother’s Day /50)

Also not baseball, I bought two boxes of 2013 Prizm basketball retail looking for Giannis during his breakout year. I got them for $175 each. I busted them and didn't hit one so I put them away. I saw the rise in a few rookies and thought the design looked familiar. Sure enough, I bought the wrong boxes, they ended up being 2012.
