First Buzz: 2020 Topps Allen & Ginter baseball cards

So I ran out to buy a couple boxes just so I do not open my ben baller box that was delivered today...I think I made the right decision(I Killed the odds I believe:

Had to make a Target run earlier, and this is the first time I found cards there in quite awhile! Grabbed 2 blasters for the fun of it knowing they wouldn't be very good. I could see the coalition issues with just those 2 boxes, got multiple instances of dup inserts in the 2 boxes. I did get a hit though, Matt Olson relic, don't even know what my last retail hit was

I really like the Where Monsters Live, Baseball Lore, and 9 Ways to First inserts

thank you! surprised those are still available but the fat packs and value boxes are gobbled up. prorated costs and odds are nearly identical. i must be missing something

Dang, I missed that Topps announced all the stained glass minis are in the triple rip cards. That really sucks.

Your welcome. They would probably be a fun rip. I just wouldn’t expect a lot from Ginter retail.

Just did 12 value packs and a blaster.. the only Luis Robert I hit was in a gold mini pack.

I also noticed a possible base parallel.. some cards have a light speckled border.. saw them random in the value packs and one per pack in the blaster.. always the last card.. tough to see them but you notice a difference to the smooth borders.

Thanks, sounds like it'd be fun to sort the minis but not much other value in it. Might just jump in for a couple of hobby boxes instead - all of these box break posts are reeling me in lol

I don't open Ginter to even try to make my money back. I just like collecting the cards. I mean we were excited to pull a Piazza and Strawberry card and I know they really aren't worth anything. We actually did pretty good on the minis with not getting dups. We're thinking of trying to finish the monster and building sets as we like those.

I'm going to call the LCS at lunch tomorrow. If he still has any left I'm going to beeline over at lunch and grab a HB. I can get there and back in an hour pretty easily. As he closes at 6 it's kind of hard to hit the place after work.

Again I need to mention that the farm cards are really really lame. Otherwise thumbs up from me so far.

They're redemptions.
Let's hope Topps remember to poke holes in the shipping boxes or there'll be a lot of expired animals arriving at collectors homes.

Opened 3 boxes, nothing really to note but got a hot box and hit the all the good rookies - Robert, Lewis, Lux, Bichette, and Alvarez. Also a Brooklyn back /25 mini of Courtney Hansen.

If your friend's case is worth $2000, it's just 25% more than the cost of a case. What does that say about the state of things? When you hit such a loaded case and only return 25%? Just imagine an average case! Brutal. #2020

- Rip /75 Clemente
- Cloth Mini /10 Berrios
- 1/1 Glossy mini Edgar Martinez
- Red Ink /10 auto Carrabis
- Framed mini autos of Judge, Chavis, Snell and Baseball Brit
- Full size auto Charlie Day
- Bunch of pigs and chickens
- (Plus Robert mini, hotbox foil, and 5 base)

Just an update on my case. Haven't sorted 1-199 yet but from 200-300 Im 43 short to make 1 set. Ill sort the rest tomorrow but Im going to be 100~ short in a 350 card set from making my first set. PUKE.

That’s pretty sad. I usually make 3 sets out of one case and usually the collation is spot on. Wonder what happened this year . People should bombard Topps twitter with all these issues

I was very much looking forward to this set as a collector and not as much for value but the checklist started killing my enthusiasm, even hearing some of this bums me out.

Only 4 Marlins, two being rookies that haven’t done anything in the majors, a retired Gary Sheffield and Alfaro who’s good but probably not in the top 3 of Marlins players id even have as a standard non rookie when you got Anderson, Alcantara, Lopez, Rojas, Cooper and Aguilar.

Finally got my Blowout case delivered at 8 PM last night by UPS

VERY happy with it - not a 'hot case' odds-wise but the 7 autos I got included some big names (Ripken, Tatis, Alvarez, Scurry, Dunst (poker guy)) and I got a plate of Luis Aparicio

I opened a case:

- 1 RIP card (Vlad /99), with a Nolan Ryan mini inside
- 4 autos (the best of which was Cavan Biggio)
- 31 total hits, because I had one box with no hits at all
- No Brooklyn back, 1 no-number back (Ryu)
- No silk, wood, metal, tokens, booklets, or anything else interesting
- No triple rip boxtopper, and the boxtoppers I got were all dupes (2 DeGrom, 2 Kershaw, 2 Trout, etc.)
- 1 Robert base, and 1 Robert mini
- Oh - and no hot box

I think I won the booby prize for worst case.

Opened a 7th box last night and will open the rest of my case tonight.

Thru 7 boxes, I got a chuckle out of these stats....
