Ok follow their advice. I didn’t realize their was an option to automatically open a non payment buyer on eBay. Also didn’t realize eBay send daily reminders.

Learn something new.

Still processing a lot of what I got today. But spent 30.00 picked up 2 Nintendo DS's with several games(nothing rare) A few other PS games a Jurassic World T-rex.

What I am sorting is a large collection of MOTU and She Ra as well as other 80s toys paid 13 for it. Only gone through 1 small bag of stuff and am at about 300 resale so far.

I am estimating in the 1300 to 1500 range at least as I dig through more of the accessories it could go up.

Had a really good weekend with over 20 sales. Picked up a Craigslist lot of Star Wars Legos last week and they’re almost all gone.

Quick question. How many listings does everyone usually have running at once? I had right around 150-160 for quite a while. Then it crept up to 200 listings. I just purged a bunch of stuff that’s been listed forever with no interest. Took it all to Goodwill. I’m back down to 160 listings. Seems to be a good place for me.

How much time it takes from you day to have 200 listings?

Surprisingly, not that much time at all. I gradually got to 200 over the course of 8-10 months I guess. I usually average around 20 sales a week and that’s just about what I add every week from pickups at garage sales, estate sales, etc. the only time I spend is packaging/ post office (I need to do that at home!) and time spent picking.

I am about completely done with thrift stores due to their increasing prices. I stopped at one the other day. They had a couple window decals of mule deer. Price tags on the stickers from when they were purchased was $12.99. Thrift store was selling them for $11.00 each. Ridiculous.

I currently have about 860. Have peaked at about 1200. Am going for 2000 by the end of October once I get my inventory lined out.

Once listed there is very little time to spend.

Great job!

I listed for 9 straight hours on Saturday & had 32 sales by Sunday Night.

I hover around the 2150-2200 range since I haven't been going to thrift stores this year.

I'm at 300 active listings. I was at 450+ when corona hit, but went through my entire death pile before stores reopened. I think 400-500 quality items is really good for a part timer and I noticed a considerable increase in sales in this range. Staying around there is pretty tough though if you are selling off 5 items a day.

Anyone else just get burnt out? I have been doing this on my days off for about a year and a half, and have pulled in about $20,000 profit during that time, but just don't feel like doing it anymore. I still go to a shop now and then, but dont search as hard. Thinking about tossing most things, keeping my higher end stuff like starter jackets etc. And shutting my store down for a while.

I think everyone goes through that. THis is why about 2 times a year I turn my listings off entirely for a week and not even look at Ebay.

Year 5 for me and I absolutely love it. I have a full time job and this is nothing more than a side gig, but I have seen growth in sales every year I started doing this and better margins as well. I love seeing my hard work pay off and even though I have to give a piece of the pie to eBay, I love being a small business owner, for lack of better terminology, knowing my growth is dependent on how hard I work and the time I put into it.

I think where burn out occurs is when you don't expand into other categories. I use to be all clothing all the time and after awhile it does get old. There's only so many different items of clothes you can find before you start seeing repeats. I've found the vintage Tommy Hilfiger, I've found the vintage Starter jackets and they just don't garner the same excitement as they use to.

Then, thanks to this thread, I started branching out more. I found a VHS tape for .99 cents and sold it for $250. I found an RV converter at an auction and paid $300 for it and sold it for $1100. I've even started getting into the plush game recently. I picked up a plush for a quarter and sold it for $25 and a lot of plush people just give away at garage sales. From video games to books to Tupperware to board games, the excitement I once had for clothing is now back in a different form and I'm excited as ever to go out and see what I can find.

Always adapt and expand. There will be times where you fail, I've bought plenty of items starting out in new categories I thought were homeruns and they turned out being duds, but it's part of the process of learning and growing.

When someone says, "Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life" this is it for me, it's just finding a way to scale it to full time which I have yet to crack that egg although I'd love to.

My main issue, like previously mentioned in a few posts above, is finding new items. My listings are only at 230 and I'd like to get higher, but it's hard to do when the stuff you're buying sells quickly (which is great) but you can't find anything to replace it with in max quantity (not so great).

If you love it, keep doing it and I hope you do because I thoroughly enjoy it along with everyone else on here.

Rant over.

So after posting I decided to swing by a goodwill to see if they had anything new. Found a brand new Tilley Endurables hat, a vintage banana republic safari hat, a Joe Rocket Sport bike magnetic bag NWT and a Ravens sewn Webb Jersey NWT and I spent $24. Kinda reminded me why I do this lol.

Hess is definitely right with a lot of these points. Don't force yourself to do it. I enjoy it because I am taking very little time away from spending with my wife and daughter and still making money to pay off student loans, pay for vacations and my daughter's college. The only time I spend thrifting really is during lunch and most people during that time just sit at their computers where I work. If you are going every day you have off, it will for sure burn you out. I know it cost me money but this part time job just takes a back seat when I don't feel like doing it or have other stuff I would rather do. Unless you are trying to go full time it should be like that, a part time job where you work when you want to. It also helps when your family starts getting into it as well. My wife has actually found a few things for the first time this year and I can tell she is getting into it finally.

How is everyone liking managed payments? I enjoy the fact that they take out the fees before they send you your payments, and I also like that you can take the shipping out of your payout. What I don't like is that my Paypal account is being drained due to no longer getting payments from my ebay sales!

Not really a fan, but whatever, them the breaks.

Don’t like the time it takes for processed payment to hit my bank account after I ship, 2-3 days. PayPal to bank account was 1.

I have been in it since July of 2019 was the best thing I ever did with my Ebay account. i detest Paypal and always have but it was a necessary evil to endure. Now that I no longer have to be directly involved with them it is great.

Picked up a Nikon F2, an autographed Mike Schmidt figure, & an autographed Joe DiMaggio figure last week. Best haul I've ever had.
