I got four late last night when they went back up. Had $70 in unused FanCash plus a few gift cards so I only ended up paying $43 for four boxes.

Don’t expect these sales to go well. He doesn’t mention that it’s presale and he won’t have them in hand until December

but he spent extra $ to add the oh so informative "Rare item don’t miss out" subtitle to the listing.

and "don’t miss out last years NBA is at 700 rare cards" for the rest of his auctions.

combine that with the sellers feedbac and incorrect handling times, I agree it's not going to go well for those buyers.

^^^I wouldn't give that seller a dime.

Too many negative reviews, and the listing legitimately sounds like it was typed by a scammer in New Delhi.

I read through this thread at the beginning and figured I would come back to see how it was going. What I thought about this product is true, a good product if you want to support the WNBA, but not a product if you want to make money. Any collectible is about have a fan base willing to not only watch the sport, but also spend money on the merchandising of it. The WNBA is not the NBA and never will be because although they have lots of likable players, I am sure, and talented female ballers, it is not watched and the ratings show that. I am familiar with the names of those players heavily mentioned in his thread, but if those players cannot pull big dollars, there is no way the lesser known players will.

This is about economics. SUPPLY, Panini will make sure there are many versions, and DEMAND, that will not be there PERIOD. It is the IN thing now, but as some have said it will just be commons in the long run. The one thing it will do is clutter up the Prizm searches for a long time. Some will make a quick buck or two, but this is NOT a long term hold product. Congratulations to who his the Sabrina’s, the Bird’s and the DT’s, but 95% of all other players will soon be fillers when people mail off cards.

But what if I am having fun buying this? Should I stop because other people say it “won’t make money.” Is it possible that people buy cards for a reason other than to make money?

The same people that talk about supply and demand conveniently forget that there are 35-40 releases of men’s products every year and just a few of WNBA. Plus, for people that like Prizm, there has never been a WNBA Prizm before now. And the fanatics boxes have sold out twice already (so allegedly no demand but there are sellouts - lol). So while I can buy 8 years of mens NBA Prizm and mens college Prizm for insane prices, I shouldn’t buy the one year of WNBA? At the end of the day, it’s all relative. And so what if i don’t make money from this?

Maybe you could make me a list of all the things you think I should buy and are 100% gauranteed will make money? I’m really worried about having a mind of my own with my HOBBIES. It’s shiny cardboard. I’m totally worried about buying the wrong shiny cardboard. Lol.

WNBA was the only league where ratings went up, NBA was down, MLB was down. WNBA ratings went up 15%.

If you’re not in this to make money, you’re doing it wrong. Like I read, EVERY card gets sold at some point

Can someone who’s followed NBA prizm in recent years explain to me the rarity of the parallels in order? And how value also relates. Would be interested in how Retail compares as well with what the greens compare too.

For example it seems the ‘Silver’ is the most sought of the non numbered?

Has this been discussed before?

A lot of times I buy cards just for funsies. Sometimes I buy cards for speculating purposes. The two are not mutually exclusive. Telling someone they are “doing it wrong” assumes that you know what’s best for them and assumes you know everything they are buying. So far, this year, I have sold just one card item (a case) and that was for 48k, which I bought for 3k from Blowout 2 years ago. And I bought that just for funsies and for long term speculation. I had it in the closet and I had forgotten about it, but then this current card bubble happened and boom - crazy random profit for no reason.

Everyone has a right to purchase and like what they like. If it is for your enjoyment, by all means buy away. It is a hobby after all. Ratings have nothing to do with prices of cards exploding. Ratings went down for basketball and the market exploded for the NBA. RATING went up for the WNBA and if truth be told the vast majority did not even notice. Even I. All of those other sports, there is a huge difference between “sports” good and hobby good. If Pinnacle could not find a foothold when they had players like Lisa Leslie, Cheryl Miller, the Houston WNBA team, see I forgot all their names, for people who are hoarding this product it might not end well.

Again my observation.

Your observations aren’t wrong, but all those previous releases weren’t Prizm and weren’t at a time in a group breaking culture. As far as I’m concerned, any product that has appeal for group breaks and is a first year release Prizm shouldn’t be dismissed.

It’s gonna be a long, long winter and a lot of people will be in lockdown. Sometimes you just say, “maybe I’ll like WNBA Prizm” and are pleasantly surprised. That’s all it takes. I could collect Prizm anything. For some reason, I just like Prizm.

Ask protonpills to do one of his print run breakdowns. He’s great at those.

Point well taken. Prizm is a movement all by itself. Beautiful cards. I don’t disagree with you about lockdowns but unless there are dollars to be made down the line it will not have longevity. There are not enough dollars IN The WNBA YET! The salaries prove that and also is sad to see.

I think it’s a mistake to look at player salaries as the determinant for card values. Lots of NBA players were making terrible salaries in the 1980’s but we all know that there are some tremendously valuable cards in 1985-1986. note: Michael Jordan made about 500k his rookie year, but that is not indicative of his long term hobby value.
