I find this post a great illustration about where we are at.

Democrats feel point 1 is slowly eroding democracy and Republicans don’t seem to mind.

Republicans feel point 2 is slowly eroding personal rights and Democrats don’t seem to mind.

Democrats take solace in the power of the people while Republicans feel power comes from the individual.

I'd say that's a pretty good basic summation. What I'd add personally as a conservative is that Democrat leaders are pretty good about creating the illusion of power of the people where to me it doesn't matter if you vote left or right our leaders in government are concerned first and foremost about power to the party. So that's where individualism becomes important.

I know they say you can only judge a President's term 15-20 years after they've left office. That being said, I think Trump's actions since the election have severely undermined our elections process and is doing plenty of damage to the reliability of the results in way too many minds. I'm not saying he has to concede but holy smokes, he retweets all kinds of unsubstantiated claims. Tweets way too many falsehoods. This is incredibly harmful to our process and I do have a bit of fear of what the country will look like in 5-10 years because of it.

And it all roots from the fact that he can't accept defeat. Such a child.

69% of democratic voters said they had no faith in the election process one week after the 2016 elections. Now, 70% of republicans say it (Morning consult poll both times). For the team that won however ... both said 95% plus they have faith in elections.

What happened as a result of Democrats largely saying they don't trust elections? Nothing. And it's the same thing that will come from this when Biden is sworn in.

It's just noise.

well clark, you live in Canada, and by your own admission, haven't been here for years, so why don't you step away from this discussion?

I still haven't figured out why your so salty about our issues down here. Why not focus on why the Canadian dollar is worth 76 cents compared to the US dollar?

Sure. The business owner would get a check too. But it would be to him, not his business, and the same amount everyone else gets.

The PPP trickles down I guess. But I'd rather see the funds given directly to people (even business owners) rather than trickling through businesses.

ETA: Collectors Universe is a prime example. A seven figure handout was given to a booming business. Maybe they used it as prescribed, maybe not. All I know is they recently announced a doubling of their footprint in an attempt to handle overwhelming submissions.

If the seven figure handout was given to the employees instead, we'd know it went where it was intended.

I can say honestly that I have lost at least five arguments on the internet. I don't think I've ever won any though.

Agreed. And I apologize to the group as a whole for contributing to the noise, but not to him directly in the least. Plenty of stuff to do today, time to replenish the positivity. Sorry guys for letting the emotions get the better of me, it's obviously also something close to my heart. The New Yorker in me sometimes rears his ugly head. What he said was pretty gross, though.

Shallow words from someone who has been actively calling forum members racists on social media.

Just go away.

Hmm...curious.

By a show of hands, who here is a racist?

Well, that's good enough for me.

The thread has it's highs and lows. And if what you joked about actually happened; I'm not sure whether that's a high or low!

Everybody just getting a little anxious because we're 10 days out from an election where it's still not 100% crystal clear. And it should be.

So is this a cause for concern or nah?
Edit: Klain is Biden's pick for Chief of Staff.

The reason for the image is because Ron Klain is going to be Biden's Chief of Staff.

Of course some businesses exploited the PPP loans, and they were poorly managed from the start, and some individuals were even making more sitting at home during lockdowns than they were while they were working before lockdowns. There's no perfect solution. But there's a difference between being an individual with only your bills and being a business owner with not only your bills, but the bills of your business, and if enough businesses shut down, then all of those individuals have nothing to go back to. It just seems like a major problem to only hand out $$$ to individuals and not to also try to protect the businesses at the same time. Seems destined for failure.

So Trump saying elections are rigged and fights it = threat to Democracy
Potential Biden administration member says elections are rigged = shrug?

Maybe so.

In the end, I'd like to help people that need it and nobody else. If I have to choose between a $2T stimulus in which ~$300M goes to those people or leaving Americans to figure it out for themselves, it's an easy choice for me. Personal responsibility wins in that scenario. I'll volunteer at the soup kitchen if it comes to that.

Pelosi and Schumer saying the GOP Senate needs to move on and accept Biden won? Really? This is the pot calling the kettle black. These two spent the last four years trying to do everything they could to get rid of Trump refusing to accept him. Dems not in power throw a fit refuse to accept anything. Dems in power accept it and move on. SMH
