Yes, I was curious about this as well. I need to compare prices to current eBay shipping prices but I couldn’t do it from memory due to the new holiday rates.

I never received an email from eBay about this, but this morning I logged into my seller dashboard and there was a ribbon warning me to change to managed payments to avoid payout disruptions.

I went through the steps and about 5 minutes later received an email stating "I'm in!" Felt a little ambushed compared to how some people were offered statement credits when reading through the thread. I have several auctions ending tonight so anxious to see how the delay is for payment and if it goes smoothly.

I got the same message today, and had the same easy experience switching over. Despite feeling a little ambushed, as you said...

I do a lot of $0.99/free shipping buy it now listings, so I've been dreading the switch since I can't take advantage of the Paypal micropayment set-up to lower my transaction fees. I bit the bullet, and changed those listings from "free shipping" to a $0.25/flat charge to basically cover the difference in those fees. Have made a couple sales since the switch, so I don't think that will hurt me too badly in the long run.

As for managed payments...we'll see. Seems like most people are liking it, from reading through this thread.

Did anyone else have to add their social security number? It's asking for that in the App. Seems like a deal killer to me.

Most sellers already had it on file with Paypal anyway so no big deal for me. It is a banking requirement.

I made my first sale just now under the new system. They took out 13.5% ($359.99 item price - $48.70 fees). What exactly is the new rate for selling? I thought I read it would be 10% plus 30 cents.

^Figured it out. 12.35% + 30 cents on the entire transaction price including buyer taxes. This comes out to more than what I was paying before lol.

Paypal collects fees on taxes. Most sellers its about half a percent cheaper

You are also not paying paypal fees they combine those fees. So before it was 10% plus 2.9% on the old system for a total of 12.9.

Wouldn't it previously have been 12.9% plus the 30 cent fee (on everything including taxes)?

My biggest concern with this is giving EBay a direct key to my bank account. As a casual seller (not doing this for substantial business), that's something that doesn't feel right.

Do you write checks? Use a debit card? Use paypal? Pay your bills through auto draft? Does your employeer make a direct deposit?

Of course, yes, all of those.

My employer has never had to take money out of my account. None of those activities give anyone the right to take money directly out of your account without your consent, which essentially would occur with some kind of chargeback issue with Ebay. With Paypal, at least there was a layer of deviation from that. Also, the idea that they're asking for a SSN number now is really extreme.

Ebay does not take money from your accont. Actually if you have your account on paypal they do have the right to take money per the tos. Point is all that exposes your account to being hacked.

If its a big issue create a secondary account. That is what most do.

SSN is required by law. If you never gave it to paypal then you are in the minority. I had to after my first 1000 in sales or something like that. Otherwise i was limited to only receiving 1000 a month

Any chargebacks on ebay are billed to your pending balance then if they cannot collect that they bill it to your account balance which they can collect from your method of payment.

End of day if you wanna sell on ebay you are eventually going to have to make the move. But other sites are being forced to do many things ebay is doing now. Paypal is likely to start holding all payments in the near future and its possible the irs drops the reporting requirements meaning they will all need your SSN.

Anyone else get a monthly invoice after having the fees already taken out of the item?

The past month I have been on managed payments and they have been deducting all the selling fees automatically from the item before the payout.

Now I get a selling invoice for the month on top of that for almost $72? They already deducted all the selling fees before paying me out?!

Has this happened to anyone else?

It's for tax reporting purposes. If you meet the threshold for a 1099, they need your social security number. This is an IRS requirement, NOT an eBay requirement.

These categories are not deducted from sales. If you have an eBay store, pay for a listing upgrade, or use an eBay promotion, those are billed to you separately.

This was my most recent invoice:

Advanced listing upgrade fees $26.40
Subscription and onetime fees $59.95
Promoted listing fees $33.89

Thanks for the response! But i'm still so confused because I dont have an ebay store, didnt pay for any listing upgrades.

I only use free listings every month. I just feel like its double dipping on ebay's part

You can solve this quite easily by simply reading your invoice. Every charge and deduction will be itemized. If there is an error you'll spot it quickly.

If you've only been on managed payments for a month my guess is there were some leftover fees from BEFORE managed payments kicked in. For example, if managed payments kicked in on day 5 of eBay's billing cycle, you may just be seeing fees from those first 5 days before the switchover.

Ebay did just send me an email syaing I would get a $15 off coupon by switching over by 12/1 and that I was required to by 12/31. I've already switched and the $15 is a nice little incentive.

Shipping label adjustments, and returns can be added to your invoice as well

My fees were standard- 10% ebay & 2.9% + 30 cents paypal.

Paypal was indeed charging on the taxes collected before, which I was unaware of. Ebay's 10% though was not. Now, I'm paying 12.35% on the entire taxed amount. Doing the math, it comes out to a $1.04 more under the new system. I know its not much but it is still more overall. Its moving in the wrong direction.

Probably could comb through and find this answer but does anyone know the turnaround from time of sale to getting money into your bank account? Just switched over to Managed Payments today and sold a few items. Thanks in advance!

Yuu were paying Ebay fees based on the full amount of the sale including the tax on Ebay as well as Paypal. Many sellers were complaining about that as well, but many decided it was a cost of them collecting the tax.

Depends more on YOUR bank than Ebay. Generally mine are within 48 hours on average. Sometimes like if the buyer uses AMEX it can take longer and on non-business days. Once its sent my bank makes it available the next day sometimes the same day. Some banks can take longer.
