I just signed up for the $15 also, since they're going to force everybody into this eventually.

Hmmm. Maybe I’m mistaken then. I manually pay for eBay final value fees and only ever recall paying 10% on the sale price only.

Back when they were not mandating the switch and giving sellers the option one of the benefits was they were not charging the fees on sales tax. But that ended in July when they changed the fee structure.

Thanks for the clarification

Paypal was indeed charging on the taxes collected before, which I was unaware of. Ebay's 10% though was not. Now, I'm paying 12.35% on the entire taxed amount. Doing the math, it comes out to a $1.04 more under the new system. I know its not much but it is still more overall. Its moving in the wrong direction.
I see what you mean. I just had my first managed payment sell and the effect fee rate was 13.4% because they are including the tax in their fee calculations. Bummer.

I'm very confused on the tax part, I got an email on taxes due for the past 30 days, and it is nearly 50% of my sales. I sold $100 worth a stuff last month. Is this normal?

Thanks shreve, I appreciate the response. I responded 2 weeks ago but the dispute is still "being reviewed" by his financial institution. When I got someone on ebay chat asking about the hold they told me to kick rocks. Any estimate on how long these generally take to resolve?
Thanks again, you're by far the best resource for things of this nature and have been for a long time.

Ebay collects the sales tax on items sold so they should not be charging you.

Are you signed up with your state to collect sales tax or using it as a tax excemption? If so then your state is wanting a sales tax payment. I know here in texas if you do not file a quarterly return they will make up the amount you owe.

Its entirely up to the cc company. Ebays hands are tied on it.

so was Paypal and Ebay even on payments not in the system. Remember you are paying a processing fee. Every retailer in the world that takes CCs has to pay a fee on the full amount including the sales tax. It is what it is.

Would you rather pay that or have to process the tax paperwork yourself? I will let them do the paperwork and consider that to be the cost of them doing it. Its all a write off come February.

I'm sure it's already been discussed somewhere in here, but there are a ton of posts and updates along the way, so how do you get the combined shipping charge to automatically calculate under managed payments? Since I switched over none of my sales are combining, causing issues for me and my buyers where I have to make adjustments every time on any additional purchases.

Never had an issue with that as long as that little box is checked. That could be the buyers not knowing how to use the shopping cart feature correctly too.

I admittedly just skimmed this thread for the past hour but didn’t see anyone address this:

What does this switch mean for the “my wife has no idea how much I spend on cards” crowd? PayPal is perfect because I can just keep a balance in there whether I’m buying or selling and I don’t even have to explain to her why it’s smart for me to buy an 87 Fleer Jordan instead of putting that money in savings. eBay’s asking me for my bank account info and I don’t like the idea of that at all

Lots of folks complaining about the same thing. Open a separate checking account. If need be, open it with a different bank than the one you and your wife use so you can keep it private.

I don’t need/want to be THAT sneaky. I’d rather just keep it honest than have to inevitably explain my way out of having a secret bank account

I wasn't suggesting not telling her about it.
Still best to open a separate checking account so you don't mix card money with household money. Tell her what you are doing and why.

Yeah the smart thing to do anytime is to keep that money separate your money will thank you if you ever get audited.

Neither, I hardly use eBay and just got thrown into the new format.

I must be missing something, because there's no way I should be $75 in taxes and fees on about $115 worth of sales.

Sellers do not pay taxes on sales to Ebay at all. Ebay collects the taxes from the buyer. The seller has zero to do with that.

It shows that I was billed $55 in taxes.

there is something you a missing or not telling us. Sellers do not pay TAXES to Ebay. You are the one seller I have ever heard getting this. Makes zero sense.

I really just flip cards sporadically to buy PC cards. It’s definitely not enough money to need to worry about an audit. If it ever gets to that point I’d separate them for sure

Apologies ahead of time for not reading the entire thread... long story short, I signed up for the managed payments, and connected my bank account. However, as a married dude with a family who collects and flips for a hobby, I really enjoyed having my PayPal account be separate and it allowed me to track my expenses as well as know what $ I had to spend for cards. I can't find a way to switch this back to PayPal (so my card sales go to PayPal rather than my bank account). Is this possible?

Just open a seperate account at your bank for just your cards. That is what I have done to keep things seperate.
