If you are selling full time effectively, you need to be able to take advantage of inefficiencies in the baseball card market that include the fact that cards often sell for wildly different prices on different platforms. So I don't know why anyone selling full time would choose to sell only on COMC given that there are times that maximizing profits would involve selling on other platforms (especially eBay).

COMC is great for certain types of cards for all sellers and great for people like me that have more than full time jobs and are prepared to trade off some money for convenience in selling since I'm really just trying to find a way to partially subsidize my hobby. But if selling full time you want to take advantage of all the platforms you feel comfortable selling on.

eBay is a royal pain in the you know what to sell on in regards to scammers and dealing with customers, having to sit and list and scan a pile of cards. So even thought one can make money on selling on multiple platforms it’s just a pain dealing with eBay. So, comc looks like a better and better alternate to just pay and send in cards and not have to deal with customers and big stacks of cards to scan and list. I know a lot sellers make a full time loving sell on multiple platforms but was more asking if one can do it just on comc as there are some pretty big time sellers there. But also more asking if anyone here has been successful selling only on comc on a full time basis.

Id say if they are selling on COMC, the recent issues with comc have to hurt. Inability to process items in a timely manner has hurt the amount of new releases/inventory popping up. The inability of comc to ship to site buyers in a reasonable time can't help a full time seller either.

Good question, I've wondered the same. I'm a very small time seller, so I obviously don't know, but I personally think it'd be really tough to make a decent living by just flipping on COMC. The 10% cash out fee every time you'd "pay yourself" would be painful.

I would have to say NO
None of the people I know that are "Making a living off of selling cards" just uses one platform.

I think beyond taking advantage of inefficiencies at a scale level, anybody aiming to make a living off of selling on COMC exclusively would probably want/need a special fee structure and contract with COMC (I'm guessing Dean's has some sort of special setup with COMC, could be wrong though).
How much does a person need to earn to be "making a living?" Anywhere from $30,000 to $100,000, depending on dependents and where you live? Selling trading cards anywhere to earn that much would be challenging, and in addition to COMC fees, the person would also have to deal with income taxes, etc.

What would you do??

I have over 1300 cards on my Watch list. In 2016 I had over 1600 and it toke me 2 weeks to add them. Right now it is hard to look at them and find any thing fast The players are all mixed up. I was thinking about removing all of them and starting over. Just a lot of time to spend with maybe little impact.. My plan was to look at each player Starting with the player with the most cards I need. Then add the cards I need with the highest priced card to the lowest

As they will not do any thing about being able to sort my watch list (in any helpful way) I really would like them to have a hide feature so I did not have to look at all the cards of a player that I have. 6 years of asking and 6 years of I will look into it.

You can sort by price. Just click "ask price" at the top. I deleted a watchlist that was 370 pages long. It took me a long long time.

Ebay involves too much time, I submit 500-1,000 cards a week to COMC, some sell for 20 cents but the wins more than make up for it. It can be a full time job. For the last week, I have dropped everything 10%, twice, then I also drop prices on 500 cards daily. Maximizing profit? Ummmm, no - but the time I have saved by putting them in one box vs. trying to list 100 cards a day on eBay = Winning

Dang! 1,000 cards a week! That’s like $2,000 in listing fees a week! That’s big time right there!

Thats small compared to what some used to submit. When I was at my peak I was sending in that much. Some are doing a lot more than that.

But only 2600 in your port right now? You must price them very well to only have 2 1/2 weeks worth of submissions in your port when you send so many in.

If you believe COMC stats
He joined in 4/16/2019 consigned 22,459. Sold 95% of them over $87,000 SRP worth.

Yes, I know about the .50 submission fee that’s where I got the $2,000 estimate of costs from. Unless my math is off ( I’m horrible at math) .50 a card submission world out to $2,000 a week for that many cards submitted weekly?

Those sales numbers are impressive! I guess I answered my own question, and that is, it is possible to make a living selling on COMC!!!

Your math is off. 1000 cards x $0.5/card = $500.

I’m not very good at math so thank you for your help. I appreciate it.

Even $500 a week in submission fees is a lot for the average collector like me! Impressive!

By my calculations, if you start with an initial stake of $248,451 to buy COMC credit (including 8% sales tax), and buy 100 cards per hour to flip at an average cost of 75 cents per card, offer them at 100% markup, spend $50 per month for an upgraded account, and sell 1% of your inventory per month, then after approximately 13 months working 8 hours per day, you should be making about as much pre-tax income as an entry level McDonald's fry cook (without health insurance or other employee benefits).

Submitting that many cards does not mean they are making a living on COMC. Could be all 75 cent cards. COuld be like mine were cards that did not sell on Ebay so I moved them to COMC. Better to sit for sale somewhere than in my closet with zero chance of selling.

Got it. I was just looking at the $87,000 SRP and thought wow! Most people don’t make that in a year working full time and in fine parts of the country you could live pretty well with $87,000!

We both know the current-year submission is horrible.

I would rather spend an extra 15c than wait 6 months for the 35 cent level. That way they get loaded in 2-3 months.

Depending on your expenses 87000 in SALES may translate to less than 20K in actual profit.

Comc newbie question here, but, can someone send in current year cards and pay .50 or does all current year submissions HAVE to be submitted with the .35 current year? I ask because your totally right, I’d much rather pay .15 extra per card to get faster service. Thanks

It is terrible but it's still an option. I'm using on a lot of my rookie cards and lower end stuff that I plan to sell for a buck or so.

Current year is taking 2-3 months right now.
