To be honest I didn’t and I think the only reason being is that I’m not a Koufax fan/collector. I dabble in collecting Clemente stuff and I have enjoyed every Clemente (for the most part) in this set but that one just seems wrong. The images are terrible and the handwriting is so sloppy I couldn’t even read some of the quotes without super zooming (but that could also just be my aging eyes). I just hold Clemente to such high esteem for the person he was that I feel that card lessens him. And I understand that’s part of the art and I can appreciate the time Siff put into it. But I hate it and I just can’t buy it. And obviously I know it’s just my opinion and it means nothing to anyone else, lol.

The foil set will be nice, but I wish they had done only 1 per player. Trout already has 2, so someone gets left out.

Shore, Thiele, and Grotesk are also "all vertical" artist sets. Much easier from a display perspective, but I do understand Matt's point as well. Solid job by Cartoon and OMA taking vertical cards and making them horizontal though. Just to upset even more folks.

I haven't been a fan of some of the other Siff cards, but this one I love. Behind Ted Williams, Clemente was my second childhood hero, and he was almost my first. My point being...I'm a huge fan of Clmente, and his words make that card great to me. Not the image(s), per se.
I get that, but the words to me appear to be rather sloppy. If the printing was neater or something maybe I’d appreciate that part more. But it almost seems blasphemous with how poorly Clementes portrait is drawn. I have been a huge supporter of the artists in this and felt the bashing of them was not necessary bc it’s art and everyone sees it differently but this card really sticks out to me as just horrible. And that sucks bc I collect some Clemente stuff but can’t see myself ever adding this one to my collection.

Being the best card today is not super tough...

I understand completely what you are saying jjj5278. Sometimes there is a fine line between art and "lessening" the actual player. Siff still has Jackie. Very interested to see if he draws him in that alien image, or if he takes a bit more traditional approach with him.

Some of the horizontal cards have been really cool. Cartoon’s Clemente looks incredible to me, but he simplifies the image and uses big, bold fonts.

To me, the Siff faces work if I see them as Siff’s tribute to Clemente, where he’s trying to represent something about Clemente, and not a picture of Clemente.

Also, just throwing this pic out there: I went to a Basquiat exhibit in Boston that had this, which reminded me of Siff’s style. I understand if people want actual Clemente on their Clemente cards or think these Siff/Basquiat faces look ugly.

This is the way he draws, so you either get the Siff face or him doodling around the original photo. I vote Siff face. Even that beloved Ripken card has an "alien" Siff face on it.

Today's card is very similar to his Ripken to me, except horizontal and overstuffed.

If you loved Siff’s Ryan, you will love Siff’s Clemente.

Love Siff's Clemente, just like I loved his Koufax. Having said that, I certainly understand people not liking his style, particularly his representation of the player images when he draws them himself. For me, that is Siff at his best. I suspect for many others, that is when Siff is at his worst.

Agreed. I am interested to see what he does with Jackie. And with the Koufax I can kind of see Koufax in it. Like I could see that image not on a card and I may end up guessing it’s supposed to be Koufax. But if you remove that Clemente image from the card and ask people to identify it I don’t think there’d be one person who would guess Clemente, even less likely if you remove the Pirates hat.

I'd consider myself a fan of Siff, but that Ryan is definitely one of my least favorite cards of the entire set. I didn't like his Henderson card very much either..

So long as he doesn't do that to Jeter, than I am good. Not working for me.

I'm really looking forward to the Rochester Jeter. Might be the one remaining card I'm most excited about

It looks like it's going to have foil. So will Grotesk's McGwire.

(Unless either decides not to do foil)

We need our brightest minds working to figure out how many I have to buy to get a foil

Rochester's Rivera is maybe my favorite version of that card, right up there with Efdot's interpretation. Love it

So with today's releases, looks like Rochester's last release, Jeter will be his foil and Grotesk's last release, McGwire will be his foil.

I agree with this. Not a fan of the art, but overall the card is ok.
