Can anyone explain why my funds are able to be held for a package that is slowly moving through the USPS system. I thought Ebay understood the issue but instead the buyer was able to open a case and have over $100 held until the situation is resolved?

Edit: The message from Ebay also says that if I don't have tracking that shows delivery to please consider refunding the buyer. WTF am I missing?

of course they will hold the money. Paypal does the same thing Amazon will as well. Holding the money is to guarantee they can get it. It has nothing to do with how they resolve the claims. Ebay never said they would not hold the money or allow the claims. They just will not count them against you or will they decide on for 10 days after the buyer asks them to make a decision.

That message about tracking is standard but you should always update the thracking in the claim just in case its not showing on Ebays side.

So in your opinion, or from what you have heard or seen, what happens if a package is in limbo for 3 weeks? Is Ebay going to side that I need to refund the buyer?

I have not had that happen yet. Ebay is basically saying to let them force the refund. That the strieks normally associated with these cases will not count. Alos it has been shown in the past if it arrives after the refund is forced you are more likely to get Ebay to step in if you let them decide.

Its 10 days from the time Ebay is asked to step in before Ebay will act from what they are saying. That is not when they open the request but from the escalation.

I had one that was stuck in limbo for 17 days that shook loose and was delievered yesterday so its very likely many more will shake loose.

I seem to be getting normally a 6 day (up to 12) delay every time a package hits a main distribution center. The longest one (12 days) was from an ebay return sent from NY to me in NY. This has been holding true for packages hitting multiple centers on the way, so if there are 2 it has meant a 6 day delay each center on average.

I've had 3 things hit the District Heights, MD distribution center on 12/13, 12/14, and 12/18. Not one of them has moved since arriving there. Can't even imagine what the inside of that facility looks like right now.

I think we're all wrong about why packages are being delayed. Had a buyer tell me today that its just a clerical error within the system..

I have some from the 2nd showing "departed Shreveport" this means they are in one of the several dozen trailers parked outside the Dallas center. Last count I heard it was around 125 trailers. of mail that has not even been touched in weeks.

That seems to be the hang up site for a lot of stuff I'm sending and receiving also. I just got two items today that were sent at the very first of the month.

It's funny because the rumor was the the Baltimore sort facility had some COVID issues so they started routing everything through District Heights for the time being. Now Baltimore is seemingly back up and running and everything processed through there is having just a minor delay, while District Heights is just backlogged to hell. I've had a couple of packages that went through Baltimore that I received in 5-7 days, which is super fast in the current state.

I just send a generic message to everyone that basically says 'Because of COVID/holiday season, you aren't getting this by Christmas, not a chance. If you want to cancel, feel free otherwise I'll ship within 24 hours.'

I've had cancellations, so be it.

Although definitely have seen alot of packages get routed badly. I had one package that was for my daughter make it to our local post office 2 miles away then get routed to the northern part of the state (for whatever reason). Also seen numerous other packages get sent elsewhere. Maybe they are trying to offload sorting to other places.. who knows. Just seems odd.

They are offloading many of these processing plants are having to refuse trucks and send them to alternate areas. This was brought up in an article a couple of days ago.

I had a bunch of packages stuck in transit. Fortunately, all of the expensive ones have made it through. I still have 3-4 items that aren’t moving very well.

A few buyers opened cases, which temporarily held up my money, but none got escalated. I also have another buyer hassling me by ebay message, but has not opened a case. His item was sent out First Class on the 15th. Each time I just politely explain the situation and ask him to be patient.

On the other hand, Nov 23rd I ordered a particular item for my son, which was a fairly expensive specialty item. It was the only thing he asked for for Christmas. It got hung up in the mail. Being a seller myself, I hated to cause them an ebay hassle, but I messaged them and asked if they could do anything about it. They agreed to overnight me another one, and I agreed to send back the original one when it gets here. The overnighted package was delivered yesterday. Last night, the tracking updated on the first one and it looks like it will be delivered today. Forget the text and email update trick. Just refund or replace the item. That is the best way to get a stuck package moving! LOL 😂

FWIW... I had a bunch of stuff shake loose this week including some Santa magic on several packages coming today that i didn't expect. Hope some others of you get the same luck.

It also seems like stuff I mailed out moved faster than my incoming stuff, actually arriving in reasonable/almost-normal time... Especially a few packages that went west.

Went to ship out my packages today and my PO and my UPS location were both closed. Only thing open was my FedEx drop off (Walgreens). Anyone know if you can call and get those late shipping dings off my account? They were for items purchased last night after 5PM.
