I'm more inclined that the jumbo sale is real, but a hobby box on auction went for $700 just a couple days ago.

However, SOTO/ACUNA fever is rampant, perhaps this is the fallout.

I've had good luck with ones I bought off eBay in 2020, as long as you check the feedback of the sellers. Most were in gradeable condition

They’re probably coming out of cases From DA. The 100 I bought was about 20% of their stock last week. Wish I would’ve bought 10 more to see if they would send a sealed case.

I found maybe 3-4 update fat packs on clearance at various WalMarts and the condition of the cards was not good. I wouldn't touch one now with a big CLEARANCE sticker on the front.

Possibly. But I can tell you from having purchased multiple loose basketball fat pack lots from them before, those didn’t even come out of a box. They looked like Target/Walmart unsold floor stock. And the price was just too much to get crushed by poor condition.

I bought 10 on the Black Friday special from DA... they came as 2 stacks of 5 taped together. Lots of bent corners especially in the first half of the pack up to and including the inserts/hits, could have been from factory or poorly handled in the warehouse.

We all know that the Ronnie platinum was pulled on Xmas day 2018 as a stocking stuffer from a retail pack in Sheboygan, WI and swiftly tossed in a big plastic orange Halloween pumpkin which now resides in the corner of a dusty damp garage for the 2nd winter in a row.

A jumbo case is six boxes and a hobby case is 12 boxes, correct?

Jumbo case is worth about $7,200.
Hobby case is worth about $13,200.

Once the Plat Acuna surfaces (if it does), would sealed wax prices take a small dip, or not be affected by it?

I feel like in years past that once the big cards are all pulled then prices seem to go down a bit.

As long as the Acuna/Soto/other base and parallels are gaining steam, it won’t effect prices at all.
People aren’t spending hundreds of dollars on a box to hit a 1:11,000,000,000,000 card.
They’re spending the money counting the guaranteed base cards, factoring psa grading/percentage, and hoping for a parallel hit.

Ok, so I've been crunching numbers since last night and I think these fat packs at $39.99 (what I paid on DA) are the EXACT breakeven point for JUST THE BASE CARDS of the bigger names.

My math includes grading and selling fees (I used a 50% submission rate too, so if the condition is better than normal, obviously this goes up). It also includes the selling of all non-graded cards of the guys listed below.

Granted, collation won't be perfect, but if I just grade and sell the following, we break even in cost:

Soto, Acuna, Gleyber, Ohtani, Bieber, Acuna RD and Soto RC.

So that leaves all other base cards not listed above, inserts, parallels, SPs, etc as profit.

I need to find more...

Curious about this. This is only what you'd be willing to submit to PSA, right? From there are you roughly assuming pop report percentages, or perhaps slightly higher gem rate since you're curating, have experience, and can spot what should be a 10 vs. what should be a 9?

The sub rate on US300 should be 100%, though. So have you considered sliding the scale on a per card basis? US300 100% vs. US200 at 50%?

(someone recently hit the BIN on a PSA-6 US300 for $35 + $3sh. Can't even lose money on a six now )

Technically, I would make $1 more if I sold a raw US300 ($75) over grading and getting a PSA 9 ($90).
