Just looked ~4700 base Mbappes graded at PSA, only 336 silvers. Will hold the silvers until they are valuated appropriately relative to the base.

My advice is to figure out how to use the forum search and also to check Forum FAQs for things like this.

That's because a significant portion of soccer cards are sold in countries that don't care about grading and have neither the time/money to send cards halfway across the world to PSA.

Also they are still under grading, a ton of subs from March 2020 are still undergoing grading.

I am an Mbappe cheerleader, seems like his cards have been creeping up. Has his play been good lately or is this brewing 2022 world cup fever?

Some suggest it’s because of contract uncertainty, but I’m not sure if he can be the focal point of an attack as he struggles when Neymar doesn’t play. He’s not great in possession (like Messi or Neymar) and not good enough off the ball or finishing (like CR or Lewandowski). I don’t think you can improve the former at this level, but maybe he can become better off the ball.

The PSG-Barca matches will be a great opportunity to see Mbappe (and Neymar and Messi).

FWIW I think this is a very fair write up from one of the Guardian writers for his number 7 entry in their 2020 top 100 footballers:
"Mbappé is obviously a phenomenon. He achieved more before turning 22 than most players achieve in their entire careers, and he is one of the most thrilling players on the planet when on song. And this year he helped Paris Saint-Germain make it – at last - past the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Yet he has slipped one place in the 100. Maybe that is because, awesome though he is, he has not been as brilliant as he could have been this year. Not consistently. He flopped in the Champions League final and there have been times this year when he has seemed to rely too much on his speed, in contrast with previous years when his exceptional awareness and decision-making were among the qualities that made him so exciting. His development stalled a tad. Very few players merit both an A grade and the comment "could do better". Perhaps a move from PSG would stimulate him?"

I think his play this season is attributable to a combination of factors: (1) fatigue-- playing in CL final, getting COVID and crazy schedule; (2) lack of focus-- contract uncertainty, increasing marketing off the field; and (3) Neymar's intermittent presence in lineup.
I really don't think you can underestimate the toll that COVID has taken on a lot of players. With the compressed schedule, international duty and one season rolling right into the next, guys have not had time to recover. Mbappe played in the CL final in late August, got COVID in early September, and was back playing league games by the middle of September and CL games in October. I know other guys are subject to similar grueling schedules, and he is only 22, but I really think a lot of what we are seeing from him now is the toll of overuse at a time when he needed to be recovering. |

Fatigue?
Mbappe played the grand total of 2,718 minutes of soccer last season. For some perspective, Lewandowski played 4,133. Everyone's favourite pump, Declan Rice managed just under 3,600 minutes and didn't have any European football. Compressed schedules, International football, pointless friendlies.... I'm not having a go at you, Gin, but this has been creeping into football for the past few years now, pushed by people like Klopp. It's just another excuse in the ammunition box to pull out when it suits. Modern football is pretty much almost non-contact at this point and getting more and more sanitised each year. Modern footballers don't know how good they have got it. Yeah, they ended Ligue 1 early too so he had a lot of rest before the UCL unlike players from the other big leagues. This season all the leagues started at roughly the same time, the schedule is a bit more hectic than usual but my sympathy is limited when they play in international friendlies and secondary cups.

Don't disagree that fatigue is an easy excuse or think he merits sympathy, but I do think his play reflects (in real part) the cumulative impact of a huge number of games in a compressed schedule without adequate opportunity to give his body a chance to recover from a very real respiratory impairment.
Haven't checked, but I would be interested in seeing a heat map of Mbappe and Lewandowski to see how many miles went into their respective minutes. Also, Lewandowski is a machine so he doesn't really count when discussing fatigue. |

I can only find stats for this seasons UCL (so not a big sample size unfortunately):
Lewandowski 38.9km in 353 minutes (9.9km per 90) Mbappe 41.3km in 450 minutes (8.26km per 90) Felix 61km in 536 minutes (10.24km per 90) Haaland 37.6km in 345 minutes (9.8km per 90) Sancho 36.3km in 296 minutes (11km per 90) Messi 30.7km in 360 minutes (7.68km per 90) Ronaldo 37.4km in 360 minutes (9.35km per 90) Whilst he's overly reliant on pace he's more negatively effected by niggles and tiredness. He's in a cushy environment right now, biggest fish in a smallish pond. To take his game to the next level and fulfil his massive potential he really needs a move to a more competitive and high pressure environment. You look at how Ronaldo has constantly reinvented himself, that's the target for him.

Well, Mbappe was the best player on the pitch today - without Neymar - and is maybe on his way to being the best player in the world.
Here’s his match worn, signed, and photomatched shirt from the recent PSG-Angers match. Angers auctioned all the shirts from the match for their foundation. I honestly don’t know overall print run but I bought into dozens of France breaks and only hit maybe one or two silver mbappes myself. Noticed a lot of WC mbappes sold today, anyone know why?
