I'm choosing unbiased diplomacy in my reply-perhaps as a guard against what you're likely to see here in the days to come.

Some people posting here will say this is an intangible product (as a video clip). Others will point to tangible elements as proof of its' inherent value (i.e. serial numbering, secondary marketplace, random assignment). I think everyone's still working through those definitions, and there is potential that it could be repurposed into something more customized like a physically autographed card (for example, a "redemption" for a player-specific shoutout a la Cameo). I would also add that all of the card companies have some "digital trading card" option available, sold for actual hard-earned money.

I agree that partnering with a physical card company (Panini or Upper Deck) could strengthen its' awareness and popularity. I also think we've seen evidence of some issues that raise some concerns about its' sustainability and business model (which is no different from other new and unfamiliar endeavors, i.e. Panini Blockchain). The NBA is definitely a large enough enterprise to enlist a company like Dapper (who is standing up the platform and the underlying fintech) to pilot the idea. But it takes customers and positive word of mouth to get it off the ground.

I imagine we have another 6 months of beta and several more improvements to come...

As a collectible, I think you're right.

My understanding is for and reason people are paying a ton of money for the in demand GIFs and most here are using it to just flip for profit.

I cant say that I'm confident in them getting Top Shot right in the short term. The que system wasn't bad but a lot of issues to work out overall. I'll be unloading most of my Series 2, holding only the rookies to /4000 for now. I haven't determined what I'm doing with my Series 1 yet, we shall see.

guess they released packs. I checked before my drive to work and they weren't for sale and 30 minutes later I get to work and they are sold out. I sold all my moments and will just wait until they've used my money enough to make money to allow me to cash out. I broke about even only because I got lucky and was able to sell one moment for a decent profit to cover the losses on all the other ones. Even if I had gotten in a couple weeks sooner and made a killing on paper, I wouldn't have continued. Just isn't for me, but I wish everyone success in it.

So I played the queue game last night and ended up around 8,000.

Got a pack after numerous failed checkouts and got the following:

Ja Morant Dunk /15000
LeBron James 3 Pointer /15000
Dwayne Bacon Layup /12000 LE

I've put a total of $14 of my own money into TopShot and I have over $1k in my dapper now - I still don't trust it. Until I see a penny, I figure this was just play money and I'm out $14.

And yes, this place is bot loaded. People say "oh well those names getting packs are just the defaults when you sign up."

Uhhh yeah - thats why like 95% of the names are still defaults, all generic bot accounts who won't take the time to change their names.

I'll take this for what it is, cheap entertainment and hilarious to see all the people freaking out over not being able to buy a video clip each drop. If I ever get to cash out, I may feel different.

What’s getting lost in all of this glitched dapper talk is there was STILL 40,000+ people lined up for a $9 base pack. I don’t think bots are as big of an issue as some are making it out to be. Of the 25,000 packs, 17,000 went to unique accounts with a quantity of 1. They are investigating (with potential bans) on anyone who purchased more than two (some dude got 80...). I didn’t get a pack but I thought this new format was a success. Most guys on the discord that are pissed are just upset that they won’t be able to get more than one pack (in theory). Also, don’t underestimate the rage that people get when they don’t get fed their addiction. Especially gambling.

I do think this was a step in the right direction. The issue with guys buying multiple packs by refreshing dapper was by far the biggest problem but it seems like an easy fix now that they know about it. Not sure why they can’t test these drops without going live but that’s well beyond my programming skills...aka none.

and yeah feels like play money and withdrawals are so far away. You might try selling some items off topshot. I put 30 bucks of my own money in and I've sold some on the marketplace and such, but I've already made 200 bucks through paypal selling moments so sitting in the green

That sounds like the basis of a scam. The dapper balance sounds crazy shady, and if it’s being truly held in a non USD amount but another digital currency, buyer beware.

When there are restricted withdrawals, it’s a huge red flag. Who knows which transactions are even real?
