It's an interesting idea, but I think it'd be problematic.
Personally, I like that you know what you're getting with comics, plus the fact that you're actually getting something for your money; story, art, etc.
Maybe the closest to that idea is Harley's Little Black Book polybagged comics??
Magic is turning into sports cards with "refractor" borders and autos

Didn't Image do that for Walking Dead 15th Anniversary?

I think once things return to normal with covid that the industry is ripe for a rebound. I think the companies haven't been aggressive with storytelling or marketing recently. I don't think digital will kill print. People like collecting and there is still a desire for tangible objects. Outside of comics, physical book sales have been pretty solid overall even though lots of people predicted their demise. The biggest issue is that floppies rely on the direct market. Lots of stores have not or will not survive covid. Either the big online stores will need to see an uptick in business or there will need to be a push to open new stores. I am betting there will be grants and loans from local, state, and national governments and charities to aid on opening new businesses eventually. I also could see DC or Marvel doing more to aid stores directly.

I think the fundamentals for collecting comics are still the same for the most part: 1st appearances of characters(Miles, Hellboy, Spider-Gwen, etc), new series #1's(Walking Dead,Saga, Monstress, etc.), hot creators(D. Cates, Snyder, cover artists, yes), and with TV/Movies adapts coming for the foreseeable future, that's not going to change.

Now, actual readership and buying physical comics to actually read..that's hard to predict, but comics are here to stay in one form or another, I believe, because it's a great storytelling artform.
Thats a good point. Card collectors for the most part don't read comics so they have the wrong viewpoint on our hobby.

Also we wont really know where the industry is until the Covid money disappears and conventions start up again.

Comic Book conventions have turned into pop memorabilia conventions mostly. I have been to multiple Comic conventions where the comic dealers could be counted on 1 hand.

Money wise, keys are going up so I can see where there might be more dealers in future shows but it has been bare pickings the in 2019 and the little of 2020 at shows around me.

I think once the Marvel movies come back to theatres. To me those Marvel movies were like when Tom Brady or LeBron play. They are events. The Disney+ stuff is good, but it doesn't have the same feel like going to see a Marvel movie.

wandavision is the only disney+ show we can currently watch, so it's a very small sample size to judge on imo. not only that but we're limited to weekly episodes vs a movie length film we're accustomed to, so i understand the desire for more. if we didn't have this pandemic, i'm sure the various tv series would have kept us occupied in the movie release gaps too.
