Default eBay buyer opens case, claiming BGS slab is fake

I’ve told this guy multiple times that the graded card is authentic. Even gave him screenshots of the pop report, which apparently I altered? I even went as far as listing out the steps to access the grading registry himself.

He seems to be confused as to why a slab from 2006 doesn’t look identical to a 2021 slab.

What are my options here? Attaching photos of the conversation, the registry, and the case that he opened. Photos of the card are also attached

Appreciate any help

There are fake slabs going around. The serial number he's talking about is the part number on the slab.

Agreed, I have heard about that. That's more along the lines of there being a missing "." at the bottom of the slab. 15 years ago, they didn't even have a number on there.

Right, but you may not be able to convince the buyer. They may just have buyer's remorse and are trying to get you to cancel the sale. It's up to you, you can open a case against them and then hope they pay and you complete the sale. Or you could give up and list the card again.

Looks like he has paid and gotten the item.

End of day you are likely going to have to take the reutn not accepting could cause you to lose the item and money.

I could lose the card and the money if I didn't accept the return?

As of January 11, 2021, listings in the Sports Trading Cards, Collectible Card Games, & Non-Sports Trading Cards categories are no longer required to offer remorse returns to qualify for the Top Rated Plus 10% final value fee discount.

Bear in mind that purchases in this category still qualify for the eBay Money Back Guarantee. This means you may still receive, and we may ask you to resolve, return requests for items that arrive damaged, missing parts or pieces, or otherwise arrive at your customer not as described in your listing.

Is there anything they have on me that would deem a worthy return? Seems like a ridiculous accusation, but I know eBay is horrendous at protecting the seller. Anybody on eBay, and anybody who buys a card on eBay (with half a brain) can verify authenticity of a graded card by viewing the pop report. I don't get how he has a leg to stand on.

This is not a remorse return(or at least how he filed it) looks like he filed it under not as described. That is the heading I see on the return page. That policy you highlighted does not apply when the buyer files a not as described claim. Its only for cases where you stated you take returns and buyer says they changed mind. Befre they did this to get TRS plus you had to state you take returns they dropped that option, but if a buyer says its not as described you still will likely lose any claim. In a buyers remorse type claim one of the options is decline the return in a not as described that option does not appear in face most of the time its automatically accepted.

It also says they may force the return they just will not count the return against your status does not say the buyer will not be allowed to return it.

I mean, I'm just reading between the lines in that it was buyers remorse and that instead it was called out as "not described." eBay can see right through that, can't they? I've proven that it's real/authentic, as did BGS when they professionally certified it. I get the feeling it was all a waste of time?

Most of the time its automated Ebay does not care really. I have had a buyer admit their son got mad and broke the item and Ebay still force me to take the return. The reps will usually tell you its the cost of doing busines.

Is it even worth a conversation with them, trying to get a hold of them via phone? It seems impossible to get a hold of them these days, with their automated messaging systems that don't get you anywhere or tell you anything

You can get to an agent with the automated just sometimes tricky to navigate but when you are in it.

However many reports that agents can no longer do anything with not as described cases and they are usually telling people they have to accept them then you can dispute it once you get the item back. Ebay reps are also good at telling you what you want to hear to get you off the line so its a crapshoot when dealing with them

I can see where the buyer has a problem.
I have 2 BVG OPC hockey cards graded in December 2007 and both have patent #s on the cases.
I also have 2 BVG 1971 OPC hockey cards graded much earlier (don't know exactly when because they don't populate in the lookup) and these both have case #s as well.
Funny thing though when I search these 1971 serial #s in BVG they don't populate, but when I search the same #s in BGS they both come up as baseball cards graded in 1999. These are both very early submissions starting with 00000...

I feel your pain. I got a return today and the buyer damaged the item beyond repair. Fine whatever I'm out half the cost as that's all I am allowed to keep. A few minutes later I get a return request "Missing Parts or Pieces".

There is only one item to send and unless I was to break it into pieces there aren't pieces to be missing. They complained it wasn't new (listed used three times in my listing) also complained it didn't come with instructions or original packaging. Neither are mentioned or pictured.

Its a cheap item but it will count against my service metrics because they lied/filed it wrong and even though they are just stupid and anyone with half a brain could read their message look at my listing and know that.

Just the cost of doing business. The more we cater to stupid people the more prevalent it becomes. Online retailers are babying stupid people to the point where its just rampant and now considered normal and acceptable.

The sad truth is if you want to sell on ebay or amazon for that matter you have to be prepared to bend over and take it. You have to accept their ever changing rules no matter what. They openly/knowingly allow fraud/theft and customers to steal from sellers and its just the way it is now. (They even set up their system so they can benefit from bad behavior with a 50% fee increase if you get to many returns). If you don't like it sell somewhere else, that's what they tell you.

Thats my ebay vent for the day. If there were a better option for the types of items I sell I'd be gone.

I never have any issue talking to a live person within a minute of calling. Problem is most of the issues I need help for they no longer are allowed or have power to do anything about it.

I would just have him send back the card, issue the return and block. Odds are, you will be out more money if you try to fight or argue with the return. Just eat it and block. Not saying it's right, by any means, but sometimes its the cost of doing business on Ebay

You're probably right... such a joke. Curious what you mean by "out more money" by fighting the return though?

Out more money. There have been cases where sellers don't accept a return and Ebay refunds the buyer anyway and allows the buyer to keep the item. If the buyer goes to their CC company there becomes a bigger risk of this happening if they go to the CC company you will also be charged a fee for the case being filed of around 25.00.

There have also been cases where a seller fights a return aand the buyer intentionally damages the item to a point its not resellable so you end up out both anyway.
