One of my early interests when I came back was Kobe PSA RCs. Then I lost interest. Sold E-X PSA 9 for $150. Finest PSA 10 for $110. Hoops Gold PSA 10 for $100. Stadium Club PSA 10 for $75. Can’t win them all.

But had I not sold all those, don’t think I would have bought the Row 1 PSA 10 I have. Got it for $250 two weeks before he died. All balances out in the end.

It's most likely some type of proof. I have this one that is also a blank back.
Rare - Sure but there probably aren't many people willing to pay much for these oddball items.
My guess is they came from the Fleer Bankruptcy, backdoored or prints/misprints intended to be destroyed.

You wont know unless you try.
I see other 1996-97 Kobe cards that are unfinished have been graded, at least by BGS.

Your last statement really rang true for me. I had the chance to buy Kobe's cheap but turned my attention to Luka's at the time. So I've been buying Kobe's at 5X's the price I could have been and complaining he whole time, not realizing that I was paying $15 for 5 card Luka RC lots. Thanks for the early morning attitude adjustment. You're right, it does balance out.

Going through some of my cards, came across this 1997-98 topps chrome Kobe base... nothing to crazy ...but one I didn't know I had..I will take a second year Kobe any day!

The fact his topps base PSA 10 is at 10k...and safely sitting there is kind of crazy. Considering the population vs some of his other RCs I see the others increasing before his Topps base decreasing. Just as we saw with Lebron his Topps base (holding jersey) rookie card was the affordable staple to have, but the others have started to catch wind and catch up over the past few months. Still lots of room for Kobe's RCs to grow imo. UD, SP, Metal, Finest...hell even a few of his skybox rookies are nice looking cards with low pop. Problem with Kobe is people are buying and tossing away into PC...with some people buying multiples of same with low pops.

Think about it though. Granted they don't go for millions like a Ruth or mantle because people weren't typically putting them in bike spokes in the 90s but kobe is an all time great, topps is viewed as "flagship" and though the pop is high compared to most his other rookies, it's supply/demand. This isn't a fringe speculative guy who can get d-rosed and legacy or what could be never materializes...its cemented. And the demand for kobe is overwhelming. I used to think blowout was viewed by like everyone, but as someone pointed out as big as blowout is, it's maybe 5% of all card collectors? Alot of people in this world, and alot like kobe haha.
