You're forgetting the blockchain and the peak load in this. Compare it to running your cars engine in a low gear, in low revs everything is fine, med revs for a long time can get problematic and high revs will break something at some point. The queue system allows them to stay in med revs and find ways to shift up so they stay at that load and figure out how they can move the queue faster.

The combinations of payments/blockchain complicate things as well and their blockchain is fairly new and still under development.
There was a fairly long 'scheduled maintenance' recently, which was an update in code on their blockchain. Which broke something on TopShot. That's the problem here, you fix one thing which might break things elsewhere which you're only going to find out until it happens.

Should be interesting to see how the market acts when it's finally back up. There are going to be 1,000s of new people just waiting 2 weeks for their pack. I'm predicting the S2 sell off is going to continue even though I don't think that makes a lot of sense as they are about to become more rare.

Happens every 40 minutes or so, and once the backlog gets big enough, they halt the line and let the transactions catch up.
