Default Upcoming changes to Ebay Selling Fees April 1, 2021

Hey guys, just created a thread on this over in the ebay/comc/selling forum, but thought I'd share here as well.

I didn't see a thread on this, was just looking up FVF caps and came across it:

https://pages.ebay.com/seller-center...html#m17-1-tb2

Of particular interest:
Sports Trading Cards
11.5% on total amount of the sale up to $2,500 calculated per item
2.35% on the portion of the sale over $2,500

Here is the current fee structure:
* Final value fees are capped at $250 per item in all categories for Anchor and Enterprise Store subscribers. For Basic and Premium Store subscribers, final value fees are capped at $350 per item in all categories, except Guitars & Basses (3858), Heavy Equipment (177641), Commercial Printing Presses (26247), and Food Trucks, Trailers & Carts (67145), where the final value fee is capped at $250 per item

So with all the big $$$ cards flying around at 5-figure prices, ebay realizes it's getting shorted hundreds of dollars per transaction and is giving themself at least a small cut of those big sales.
For smaller $ sales, this may actually represent a decrease in FVF (from 12.3% to 11.5%)

For example, a $15,000 sale
Current: $250 for Anchor or Enterprise, $350 for Basic or Premium
Future: $287.50 (11.5% of $2500) + $293.75 (2.35% of $12500) = $581.25

Hope this helps, and don't be surprised if the big consignors change their fee structure going forward as well

Isn't this a DECREASE in fees or am I missing something (thought it was like 12.3% rn)?

I actually forgot what it was currently, I was specifically looking for the FVF caps and noticed they were gone, but you're right. I'll edit the original post

Aren't fees currently 10%? Up to a total of $500 or $750 something?
So now you're definitely paying more as a casual seller.

No.

What you see above is for (1) Store owners of Premium stores or better and (2) people on the eBay managed payment platform.

11.5% is all in - including the payment fee. So when you compare that to 10% + 2.9% PP most sellers had in the past, it's better.

But those on managed payments who own stores have been paying this rate for a while. Nothing new, nothing changes. Max fee $250, which still means consignors can charge much lower on high $ items because fee is capped.

OP, you're not factoring in eBay payment fees in you scenario's ... your math is not correct.

The ebay payment fees is already included in the 11.5%, hence the decrease.
Better than the 10% + 2.9% PP fee previously.

I expect with these changes consignor's will decrease their fees? It is actually cheaper to sell yourself (without a store) than to use PWCC or another competitor now. Lets say you sell a card for 10k

ebay:
$287.50 (11.5% of $2500) + $176.25 (2.35% of $7500) = $463.75
Effective fee rate = 4.64%

pwcc (8% at 10k) or = $800
effective fee rate = 8%

people on the eBay managed payment platform... is 12.35%

So, 11.5% is a nice drop, assuming we get to keep our 1% top rated discount, otherwise, 11.5% is a slight increase from the 11.35% I'm paying today!

10.5% would be nice though!

UPDATE: DISREGARD EVERYTHING I WROTE ABOVE...

Okay, so digging deeper I found the 11.5%... this is only for "Store Subscribers who use managed payments"

Everyone else, it stays the same... BUT... your free listings per month is going up from 200 to 250

Effective for any items sold on or after April 1, 2021 regardless of when the item was listed
Sports Mem, Cards & Fan Shop > Sports Trading Cards
* 12.35% on total amount of the sale up to $7,500 calculated per item
* 2.35% on the portion of the sale over $7,500

Most sellers on eBay have been on managed payments for a while (myself 2+ years now). PayPal hasn't been in the equation for sometime.

But again, in your example below, this has been the standard rate forever. Nothing is changing for most sellers w/ stores on managed payments; the rate was always capped at $250. Consignors make money, and they make serious money on the high $ sales because of the cap eBay offers to sellers.

No store owner has ever paid more than $250 for a card sale in eBay fees (+ payment fee). I've certainly never paid that, whether the sale was $5,000 or $50,000.

So the limit is being increased from $2500 to $7500? On the larger portion of FVF that is. Until it is reduced to 2.35%

This is why it’s worth the $30 a month for a store. A year subscription will pay for itself with just that one sale.
