Default ***Official 2021 Minnesota Vikings season thread***

The good: We signed top interior D-linesman available yesterday in Dalvin Tomlinson

The bad: Danielle Hunter apparently really is going to force the Vikings hand with a new contract or trade, after missing all of last season and coming off neck surgery

Hunter kills me. Did He even play a single season under that extension? Love the guy but prove you are who you were before complaining that you are underpaid.

Don’t know much about Tomlinson but Giants fans seem disappointed so that makes me feel better - ha. D should be better, but as always o-line is a big question mark and will dictate which Cousins we see. I see 8-8 in their future.

After reading deeper into Tomlinson the dude is an absolute beast, an all state wrestler went 144-1 in his career and his only lose was a DQ, he takes up a lot of space so him and Pierce can be comparable to the Williams Wall 2.0 freeing up the LBs to make some plays since both guys pretty much swallow up a guard and center on every snap

I go back and forth. Our offense is very good to great, or at least can be with good play calling. Thielen/JJ are an elite pair of WRs, Cook is one of the best backs in the league, and I like Irv Smith to have a nice season. Cousins is what he is, but he has plenty to work with now and if they can finally/ever shore up the O line he could be great

Defensively, I have no idea what to expect. If Pierce does play this year, him and Tomlinson should be awesome up the middle. Hunter is obviously a huge question mark. I hate that he's doing this after missing a full season + surgery. Just prove yourself once more first. I'd love to have him on the field but if he's going to play this card right now, I don't want to give him the money yet. Harrison is still a fantastic safety, and rumor has it we're trying to bring Harris back as well. CB play was a problem last year, but it did improve as the year went on. But overall as we stand today we have big gaps at D line and CB

Special teams was a big problem last year too. We'll see if we can finally get a kicker we don't have to worry about

I don't know. On one hand, there's still a lot of holes here, and our cap space being what it is, even with manipulation we probably won't be able to address everything. But on the other hand we do still have a lot of talent on this roster, certainly too much to start rebuilding. I think as we stand now we can probably expect about .500. But I don't think it's unreasonable to expect to be able to get up to 10-11 wins with a chance to make a playoff run if the offseason goes well for us. Tomlinson sounds like a great start. But there is a lot of work to do still

I was really hoping for Christian Barmore in the draft after watching him dominate ND and Ohio state. Tomlinson appears to be a beast in his own thou so having him next to Pierce should be a huge upgrade next year.

It seems to be all but certain we are going DE in the first round. I still think we should be shopping Hunter. It would take at least a 1 this year and 2 next year to consider moving him. Let another team pay him 20+ mil coming off an injury. He has to be licking his chops seeing guys like Henderson and Lawson pull in 15 mil/year contracts

I still think we can win with Cousins, but he will still have to not make those random bonehead plays when it counts.. Which in Viking fandom history... It is probably destiny!

They need to figure out a way to address the offensive line next. We can't go into the draft needing 2 starters.

Harris was rather average last year. I don't want any part of him getting 10+ mil a season. I would much rather get the comp pick for him leaving next draft.

I think we have a good chance at 10+ wins. If Hunter comes back and we draft a DE in the first round. We would have an entirely new front 4 next year. I just don't see the team basically ripping up Hunter's deal and giving him a new 100+ Mil contract. It will all come down to him. He is possibly the difference between 9 and 11 wins.

Russell Wilson 2020: comp% 68.8, yards 4212, TD/INT 40/13 passer rtg 105.1
Cousins 2020: comp% 67.6, yards 4265, TD/INT 35/13, passer rtg 105.0

Statistically he wasn’t that much different than Wilson last year. Cousins isn’t the problem. He’s been an above average to great QB since week 5 of 2019 (after the loss to the bears where he played terrible). We lost games last year because we had an awful defence (largely due to injuries). We were especially weak up the middle and the Tomlinson signing along with Pierce returning will address that drastically.

I really liked what I see out of Gladney and Dantzler. Corners usually make nice jumps their second year and I think a full offseason with the coaching staff is going to make a world of difference for these two.

Don't buy into the Kirk Cousins scam

Good on paper, but cannot win the big game

Kirk Cousins is not a winner.

Intangibles matter.

Yeah depends on the price. Didn't have a great year, but if it's reasonable I wouldn't mind having him back. Seems like both his numbers and Harrison's took a hit last year trying to help out the CBs

The Vikes still have 2 more days to do something with him. On 03/19 that 2022 salary becomes fully guaranteed for 45M.

Peterson, please bring Larry Fitzgerald with you. Don't want Beebe as the number 3.

Also glad it was Peterson and not Sherman.

This is the whole game of how it works, but it sounds like there's some rumors that Danielle may not be as frustrated as we thought. Doogie reporting Zim and Hunter talked and at least one side thought it went really well. Doogie also speculated that eventually Vikes would give Hunter a raise. For whatever that's worth

How is he not capable to being a number two next to dantzler? He will be the next Terrance Newman and guide the young CBs to be better. Peterson was a solid pick up, class act and isnt sherman and can still play plus hes only 30? Some acting like is pushing 40

Not sure this is considered classy

His last 3 years according to PFF: He ranked 5th in 2018, 41st in 2019 and 83rd in 2020. Kinda seems like a decline.... No?

Harris just got 1 year $5 million from the Eagles. If we had the opportunity to match that and didn't, I have no idea why

Yeah... that is rather disappointing to hear. I was expecting at least 3/27 or something along those lines after playing on the tag. Peace of mind at safety for 5 mil was probably worth it. They had to of thought paying Pat P 10 mil to play opposite of Dantzler was a bigger upgrade than the 5 mil for Harris.

Mackensie Alexander is returning to the Vikings. I haven't seen years/money yet but seems like a nice pickup!

Yup this is great news. I will be curious if they move on from Hughes as a result. Pat P - Dantzler - Mackensie - Gladney - Boyd Not gonna be a lot of room on the roster.

They now signed safety Xavier Woods to a 1 year $2.25 million. Is he any good?
