That’s actually awesome! Gives me hope.

I've been selling on eBay since 1998 buying/flipping cards. The bubble will only burst if eBay stops that is when the market will crash. Another big sign if the market will crash is when PSA, BGS lowers the price of grading significantly. And this will be the end of the end, if professional leagues stop playing.

I like bragging. Just yesterday I sold an ungraded card for $150 that I bought five years ago off eBay for $2.25

So since PSA recently increased their prices I guess we are good for now haha.

It can't burst, it can only decrease in size as it has in some areas, if you even look at it as a bubble to begin with. People aren't running to buy every rookie out there like they were months ago, a lot has changed. It's gradual.

Ebay's not going to stop but come Jan. 2022, there's gonna be a hell of a lot less selling.

Guys, you’re thinking about this all wrong. All cards go up forever. At least that’s what I read on Facebook

Yep, agreed. Not a single card between 250-2.5k has dropped in price. *insert moon emoji here*

Well you forgot the biggest when people actually start having to pay bills again like mortgage and rent when covid over if ever people spend money else where. Aka spending thousands on tickets to games or concerts etc Lastly send cards to grade is a fortune now min wage $8 or so most people will have to work 4 hrs to grade 1 bloody card that you get back till next what a damn joke. Lastly manufactures gouging artificial limiting supply to charge enormous amounts on cardboard. It’s turning a lot away and killing future collectors.

These are legit concerns imo. There will be more competition for our money when people have more options for entertainment and are less bored.

I've listed dozens of cards on my small eBay store over the last month and virtually every single one sold in less than 24 hours. Bubble isn't even close to bursting.

Exactly. For the 10 cards people point out that have went down some from RECORD sales, I can name 20 that have doubled in the last few weeks from their last sale.

I remember when the big plummet happened to the Topps Project 2020 baseball cards, it got ugly in that thread, guys posting huge return requests because the case the card was in had a scratch on it. Not the fact that the card they paid $1000 for a month ago was now selling for $100.
A little different circumstances but it was definitely a bubble bursting.

2019-20 One and One Downtown inserts have really gone down. Luka auctioned 2k higher raw 2 weeks ago. Has dropped 1k each week.

Wait until Top Shot does the same thing. Will be some bad blood in that marketplace.

Ha. EXACT thing happened to me. Didn't know that was a "thing" people were doing I sold a Trout Ben Baller 10 count lot for like $2800 or something. Fast forward a month and I get a return request on eBay (I'm set-up as "returns not accepted". Guy said that there were "scratches on 3 of the 10 cases. I'm sure you didn't notice, they are not big". Told the guy that everything was sent to him, still bubble wrapped from Topps, and this request seemed more like buyers remorse from the prices dropping. I asked if he would be making this same request for scratches if the prices had continued going up and explained I'm just a regular guy seeking to provide for my family. Then I denied the request and never heard from him again, thank God.

For me, it is the step-change in 2020-21 hobby box prices compared to 2018-19 that shows the true state of things and how that plays out in the next few seasons will be what I am looking at.

Is Hoops going to be a $400 product in 2021-22, 2022-23, 2023-24... or is it going to return to somewhere close to $65 it was a few seasons ago? Will Prizm hobby boxes return to $80, or is $2,500 the new long-term norm?

I like everyone else cannot predict the future and - whilst I hope they do return to a level where opening new wax boxes becomes a possibility for collecting mortals such as yours truly - I have no idea if they will.

I think it’s more likely bubble deflation than bursting...

1. The 'drop' we have been seeing the first half of the NBA season is something that happens EVERY year. All of the sudden, everyone gets surprised when things ramp to a frenzy as the playoffs approach. It is amazing how this happens every year, and every year people are worried about it.
2. Once you start with the card hobby, you don't stop, at least for the majority of people and even if you try to, it sucks you back in. Why? Because it is FUN. For all the new money that is bringing up values, there are real people behind it. They are discovering that they get to invest in the sports players they love watching. They get to hold a tangible asset (more fun that stocks, bonds, betting on games, etc). People aren't going to just get out now they they enjoy it.
3. Along with it being fun, it is a hobby. Something people enjoy. However, this is one of the very few hobbies that can breakeven and even possibly pay off with huge profits. What?! Okay, if you live in a world where money matters at all, this is going to be appealing to a lot of people. And continue to attract more and more people. Who discover they enjoy it, and spend more, and the cycle continues.
4. IMO, This is less of a bubble than it is the hobby finally realizing pent up potential that has been undervalued for a long time. Sure there are some elements of this that just seem insane right now, but don't we say that about everything the first time we see a big sale? Everyone is amazed that a card sells for $52k (Mantle rookie 30 or so years ago). Then $100k, then 250k. Next thing you know they are selling for $4M and we keep having the same reaction. 'surely this cannot last'. It sure can if people enjoy it, and more an more people discover it. I don't see those people disappearing with the snap of Thanos anytime soon.
