Default Show Me Your "Heading to PSA" Pile!

When I joined BO I really enjoyed looking at people's box breaks/collections/pickups/grading reveals etc.
As the hobby has changed I see less and less pics of actual cards

So here's an idea....what are you sitting on until PSA re-opens?
I know REV has a big stash!

Here's some things in my pile:

The LeBron’s were ready to be sent and was a day late! Never expected the shutdown and no way they will go anywhere else. The stacks behind them is 327

What will you do if July rolls around and minimum prices are much higher ~$40 a card or they aren't allowing for Value or Economy level orders as of yet? Patience is certainly a virtue, but we may collectively be in for a long, long wait.

I've calculated that I am safe to break even with pure PSA 9s at $50 grading fee per card for my stack, so at $40 I'm comfortable. I also figure I will inevitably get some 10s, so even at $50 a card I think I'd still have an overall positive return, just less than I would like. But, I also expect the value of my cards to rise considerably (I didn't buy speculative young players, only soccer GOATs), so I'm ok to wait. As long as you go after safe investments and budget for PSA 9s, you should be fine once PSA reopens.

Not sure, but 90% of these cards were in boxes in closets so I could grade them over time. For now PSA is my play so I will wait. Have around 600 currently there.

haha. But seriously, this why we're in the situation we are in today because people are actually submitting stuff like this!

I wouldn't be surprised that some of these cards were actually submitted or are in the backlog at PSA right now.

It's actually not (I too thought it was - but the submission of cards like these isn't nearly at the volume you'd think). The issue is the absolute pile of mid-low tier modern rookies getting submitted. There's over 300,000 2019 prizm basketball cards graded by PSA as of now, and roughly 100,000 are Zion, Ja, RJ, and LeBron (the ones nobody would disagree are worth submitting based on their production/talent). That means roughly 200,000 cards are of guys who are speculative plays and will likely never become anything beyond mediocre role players. And that's just one sport, and one product (albeit the main product); the backlog comes from the Jarrett Culver's, De'Andre Hunters, and Bol Bols accumulating. Piles of cards that will likely be worth nothing in 5 years. It's the rampant prospecting, not the odd Claudell Washington card that created this backlog.

Yeah, but those piles of Prizm rookies for players that will never be starters in the NBA are just as bad as someone's PC of Dave Megget cards

Here are some random highlights. Lol and refractor versions of those with KD being glossy.

But a PC of Dave Megget cards - or alike cards submitted for PCs - isn't anywhere near to the scale of the rampant prospecting. And scale is everything. That's what creates the backlog. If PSA wants to keep this from happening again, they have to price out large scale prospecting for ultra-modern cards. You might say "why not price out Claudell Washington cards too," and the reason there is simply that they fundamentally aren't the issue.

I completely agree. I've heard speculation from people with contacts at PSA that there will be new pricing structures when they start accepting submissions again to control this.

The Dave Meggett hype train has started. The offers will be rolling in at anytime for that card.

Price controls will be interesting. I don’t know how they would do it really. I think they will move more toward group submitters. We shall see. I have lots of grade candidates, but not all of them NEED TO BE GRADED if price is not right.

This is an important statement. With the PSA shutdown, higher grading costs and lower gem rates I’ve sold more raw cards in the past 6 weeks than I did in the previous 2-year period. It actually feels good to not have these cards build up in piles.

The piles that I do have I’ve moved to a new strategy with because of the shutdown. I’ve moved everything (and it’s a lot) from 2018 into a “wait till January” stack since I’m waiting at least 3 months anyway. I do have a handful that I’m waiting for express to open up for. I’ll add that photo tomorrow.

Here are some cards I am actually sending to PSA this week Don't worry, they won't be sent at $300 a piece. I still have some vouchers and I need these slabbed for my PC. I think now is a great time to send in my vouchers when PSA receiving is not as busy.

Christ where did you find a 71 Simmons with no whitening?

If you spend 20 hours a week on eBay you might be able to find one as well... I think I got it for $35 raw and it looks real nice besides the centering. I have been searching for a Bert Blyleven as nice as the Simmons, but I think I will bite the bullet and get a graded version soon. I have been very fortunate buying off eBay. My nemesis is the 1975 Robin Yount. I bought about 8 of them on eBay and each one is a little worse from the pictures. After grading them all I will still have made money on them, but out of the 8 I will be happy if a few come back a PSA 7.
