It has nothing to do with being a tough guy. Common sense maybe, as most anyone with common sense understands the definition of standing and/or getting in line.

Why would they add more to it when it already sells out? Has Topps been known to do something like this in the past, other than a maybe a new shade of pink being introduced?

I think topps could put in 4 regular retail packs and charge 39.99 msrp or even 49.99 and it would still sell out

Now they are going public will be interesting to see how it changes the retail game

But why would they? There’s no pressure to improve the product beyond what it is.

Clearly RBob is either a blanket boy or part of the crew, which is why he fails to see how ridiculous it is. By his logic, all I need to do is know blanket boy, shoot him a text saying I’ll be there, he gives me a number in line, and I show up at 0730 and become part of the low class mob that helps blanket boy enforce the “rules” that were “decided” on by a few scumbags that showed up the earliest, but don’t want to physically wait in line.

Seemingly, Target can control in person sales as much as they do online sales, meaning not at all. They can’t even keep bots from destroying anything popular that goes on sale.

I am disgusted by the whole thing and haven’t bought retail in those stores in months because of it. If I get lucky in a Barnes and Nobel or a Walgreens then awesome otherwise I am out.
I mean, we are heading in that direction. I said before, I don't think Target's want people camping out in front of their stores for hours every week. I don't think they thought people would actually do that with this new imitative.

If they want to continue selling cards, put them behind customer service and limit 1 item per customer, and that's it.

Default My rolling Target stock thread

While the sneaker guy in me says it’s wrong i don’t blame folks for trying to adapt a sophisticated system on their own. I understand both sides of the argument. If it’s me of course I’d rather get their early and sit in my car but I’ve also been that guy that has woken up early and stood in line for whatever (usually in the winter, why’s it always when it’s cold out). I don’t think the car guys should expect everyone to adopt their system, but ideally it’s not a terrible idea in theory, but of course in practice their are too many variables outside my control to feel comfortable giving that kind of power to a complete stranger, especially when so much money is on the line. We all read animal farm, we know how this ends.

There is no "probably" about it. I can tell you first hand that it is a fact.

I don’t think it’s necessary to take a shot or make it personal.

There is no objective way to explain it, and that’s as far as it needs to go.

If I show up at 6:30a and no one is in line, then I’m first. If a couple people come out of their cars and say “we were first”, I’d tell them fine but they need to get and stay in line now because I’m not going to acknowledge any nonsense. If they come out an hour later and try to explain to me why they are first, I’ll point them to the back of the line. It’s not up to a “crew” to selectively determine what a line is, that is well known.

Being a publicly traded company changes the game big time. They will now have to constantly beat their quarterly earnings ever 3 months which makes decisions much more short term in nature. I would expect them to intro a. Umber of new sku’s and spread out their releases as you can’t simply have an MLB license and a seasonal release schedule. All the variations we have seen (chrome releases for Update, Stadium Club, etc) will increase. I would also expect them to make a major push into other non-sports via an acquisition of a company like Pokémon, Magic, Upper Deck, UltraPro, etc very soon after being a public company.

They have stated they are going to push hard into digital and NFT stuff. I would love to see them buy UD and get those properties.

Great point. Going public is bound to have an impact on releases.

Also, someone else mentioned, I hope the flippers keep away from baseball when Bowman comes out.

Why would the flippers want Bowman?

It’s just like every other over produced Baseball product. There is no value in it and no reason to buy it.

Right?

If I wanted retail bad enough to get in line at 6am and some dude in a blanket told me he was ahead of me in line after appearing outta nowhere we’d have issues.
My first instinct would be similar to the morning panhandlers at the McD drive thru. Apologize and see if I can hook him up with enough change for a coffee or McMuffin.

If you’re up on your reading, I’ve noted multiple times I don’t bother with Target on friday mornings. I value my time more than standing in front of target (or waiting in my car in front of target) for hours on end.

I look forward though to all you guys who say waiting in your car won’t fly with you to report back on friday with how you straightened everyone out and took first place in line.

That’s the point though. If actually you’re first in line then it’s up to the guy in the blanket to “straighten you out” and assert his quasi assigned dominance of said line. Not all card people are wusses who like being dictated to. I suspect anyone with a semi solid backbone will tell blanket guy to head back to bed for awhile and try again tomorrow.

Well, it will actually be blanket guy along with the 6-8 guys behind him against new 1st in line guy. I hope by the time I wake up about 6:30am PST there are several east coast guys who have reported back how it went for some good reading.
