If there’s a buyer that’s acquiring and collecting it’s still a hobby, even if that buyer intends on being a seller down the road.

A quick flip versus taking a chance on opening a box is upto every individual. Again, it’s not this or that the way you see it. You could flip some and open some, coming back to it just being a hobby for some people and not a constant money making hustle.

Not everybody that’s rich has a great job, and not everybody with a great job is rich.
Like I said, some people just enjoy not overpaying for their product...and maybe that’s how the people you see as rich stay rich lol

it’s just funny to me that anyone waiting in line to buy product at retail is being judged and lumped in to whatever stereotype thats been created for the people doing it(doesn’t have a job/is poor/needs to do this to get by)

Even if that’s the case, how is that affecting you? Get a grip, move along, and buy your product at 2.5x retail since you can afford to do that. Or don’t complain and make it seem like it’s beneath you to make the effort to get it like others.

It may seem like every person running a bot can run up those kinds of numbers but that’s not the case. You gave me the example of one guy yourself, so anyone with that kind of success is in a very small minority. You realize these bots have to compete against each other right? It’s not as easy as it looks. People can spend thousands before they start seeing profit. If you really have enough of a problem with bots having an advantage over you, why not learn how to use one? that way you get what you want and no one is screwing you over

How do you think a Ponzi scheme works? There could be virtually no actual collectors of sports cards and the market overall could still go up. As long as people are willing to spend more everything will go up regardless.

You think I can afford to be buying these products at inflated costs? I've sold virtually everything I have worth anything and have everything in cards or boxes. That's the only reason I have what I have. That and no life. A fortunate living situation as I am in the lower middle class. If I told you how much Hoops Premium and Chronicles I bought at resale prices versus buying virtually anything in the hobby or stock market you'd think I'm lying. It's worthless junk. Could have picked pretty much anything else besides Chronicles basketball retail at resale from August or September of 2020 and at worst doubled your money. Most of the biggest garbage football products that some even left in stores have at worst doubled since then.

I'm one of the people that has been going out trying to get this crap at stores for forever. But I'm also not someone in my current situation of doing this by myself that can go stand in a line outside of Targets any more than about 2 hours before 8 am. Not looking forward to probably sleeping a total of less than 4 hours Thursday and Friday combined. Hopefully I won't crash my car.

Yes I know not every bot user is making millions. But there are some making it. Regardless like I have said they will never stop. Not at $10 million profit. Not at $1 billion profit. No amount of money made will ever be enough for a bot user.

The bots aren't just screwing me over. They are screwing over every single person that wants to buy an worthwhile product online from a store for cost. If you beat everyone fair and square I have no issue with it. The problem is when sometimes close to 100% of what is available is gone before any normal buyer can get a single order of anything in. Thanks to your good buddies. The bots.

I mean, even the lowest tier of garbage Pokémon doesn’t last two minutes on the shelf.
I’m starting to see empty space where yugioh usually is.

Is there anything from Yugioh available at retail that ever goes for above MSRP shortly after release? I haven't paid much attention to it at all. Most of the Magic stuff is generally not worth it at MSRP but there is occasionally something at least halfway decent, such as Timespiral most recently. That's not a release that would attract the flippers as, after fees, wouldn't really make that much, but it still goes for a little bit over MSRP.

So just get a bot? Not that much barrier to entry I've seen.

You haven’t seen the threads on Twitter where people are literally begging the (high-reputation) bot owners to give them access.

Is there anything that ever makes you happy? Every single post is negative one way or another. You can’t really be this miserable.

There are plenty of things that make me happy. It's pretty miserable when you are waking up from sleeping multiple times on a daily basis for no reason to look at this crap and get nothing. I want them to have it to where it restocks like a normal product should, aka like UD hockey has been, or just get rid of the cards online so I can stop looking.

Why set your alerts to get a few boxes? Life is more than 3 boxes of cards dude. You are making yourself miserable over cards.

I should probably start doing a bit of research. I had a blast learning about Pokémon. I’m not even trying to flip. I just want to open something and at least have a chance to break even. Plus, my inner-nerd comes out with fictional characters on cardboard.

Others have said it, but maybe the current state of this hobby isn’t for you. Take a break. You shouldn’t let cards be causing issues to your mental health.

This is not true... I wait in a line at Target on Friday morning to get product so I can COLLECT the product. Period. I have a great job that allows me flexibilty to do that and I make a great living, but I will NEVER overpay for these products online. If it comes down to overpaying for a product or not collecting it I will not collect it.

Who's waiting 6-12 hours? I drop my daughter off at school around 7:15 go get a coffee then head to on of the 4 Targets within 15 minutes of her school. The couple times I've done this there's been hardly a line at around 8AM. Last week I was able to get a bunch of Donruss Baseball, which I LOVE to collect - logos or no it's always fun to rip and build the sets. A couple weeks ago I was able to pick up some Topps Series 1 to finish out my base set.

I’m the same way. However, I’ve been shutout at Target Fridays, lines over 25 when I showed up around 20 till.

I have just seen packs in the store, so I don't think they would sell those on the website unless they do one of their classic Target multi-packs. I don't believe they are doing blasters and retail boxes like last year. Initially I just heard OD hobby only so was surprised to see it. Would be a product that kids could actually get since there really isn't a chase card like there was in 2020 OD.
