Default Would you crack a 9 for your PC?

I am not a fan of graded stuff. I find the holders to be bulky and unsightly. I recently picked up a PC piece in a BGS 9 holder. I’m considering cracking it out. It is ultra modern and SSP #’d.

Outside of a little bit of resell value (if I do ever sell it) I can’t think of a reason why this might be a bad idea. I’m curious if anyone here has done the same, or what considerations I may not be taking into account here.

Thanks.

It’s your card for your PC. Do what you want. Maybe post the card so people can search for it in the future to know it’s previous grade.

If the case was damaged or scratched, yes. Make sure you keep the label.

I wouldn't for a few reasons:

(1) protects the card
(2) if reselling in the future, potential returns of graded cards is likely less than raw cards
(3) if reselling in the future, BGS 9 should net more than a raw card sale
(4) grading costs continue to go up and/or be slow service (should you crack and then want to grade in the future, something to consider)

At the end of the day, it's your card so do as you want.

In the past, yes.

Now, not so sure.

I've done it and regretted it, and I've done it and been thrilled with the decision. For me, it comes down to how you plan to display/enjoy it. If it's going to detract from how you enjoy the card, then by all means set that bad boy free. But if it's going to be buried in a box and only looked at occasionally, I'd just think about how much it matters to you before you go ahead and bother with removing it.

No. A 9 is pretty sweet and now with the cost of grading, it's even more of a no than ever.

But if you don't like them, I don't see why you would care what anyone else thinks?

In the past I cracked a bunch of BGS/PSA 9s. Not sure I would do it now unless I was sure I wasn't going to sell.

It really comes down to it being easier to sell and for more money if it is graded.

If you put it in a sleeve, top loader and team bag it is just as protected as it would be in a BGS case IMO.

I've done it with comics several times as I love looking through them. For sports cards there's less of a point, right? That being said, if you want to, go for it. But yeah, I would keep the label, just cuz.

I’ve cracked several PC cards out of BGS cases cause I just don’t like the way they look.

It’s your card for your PC. Do whatever you think makes it the best for you

Perhaps you can trade it for a raw mint copy to someone that collects BGS graded cards. Like someone else mentioned with the increase cost of grading this may add trade value and you may get extra cards in that type of deal. Assuming your card is not a 1 of 1.

Depends on the card and the case.

I cracked an Eric Maynor exquisite out of the case because the BGS slab was way too bulky.

Yes, Absolutely. Many cards in my Auto collection that were bought on the secondary market and not pack pulled were graded 9 or above. I like to have all my Autos raw/unslabbed. I don't do it for RC's I buy though.

I've purchased dozens of graded cards and cracked them all. Just be careful not to damage the card like DajuanWagner.

Lol at cracking a mint slab what is the purpose

U must want to get it returned when you sell it raw and get shafted

It’s protected it’s guaranteed mint
Unless you are going to try to alter what is the point honestly

The card is slabbed and guaranteed MINT only thing u can do is damage it after

For sets that I keep in mags, I'll always crack regardless of grade. Did that with all my Pinnacle auto sets, the Clear Visions, and the Spectra neon greens. I like to have them all uniform in mags.

LOL at judging people for enjoying their cards the way they want to.

LOL at believing that the graded cards can’t get damaged in the slabs.

LOL at believing that every slip that says “mint” guarantees the card is in mint condition.

LOL at believing that all raw cards are owned by people who want to alter cards.

LOL at believing there isn’t a market for raw cards.
