I pay someone to chew my food for me and spit it into my mouth like a baby bird.

Come to think of it, COVID may have originated with me.

My family is one of the few people in our neighborhood without a lawn service or a maid service or both. My mom also gives my family haircuts as she did go to beauty college and keeps her license current. My mom always says don’t ask someone to do something that you can do for yourself. Like she stains the fence and deck twice a year where the neighbors just pay someone

This thread is hilarious. I'm too poor to pay people to do work for me. I spent all my money on 16th year LeBron hoops bass

Nope, you and him are buddies so I thought he'd hit you up first. Did you poke through on purpose?

I'm not sure how exepnsive these things in your part of the world, but some people even take pride in doing things themselves. Specialty finish carpentry, and other tough stuff you have to get done by the pros. But cleaning a house? I get it, not enough time in the day, just not something I see as value added enough to pay for. My wife and I do a better job anyways. Once a week, bathrooms, floors etc all get done. However we both do work from home, so there i an advantage

When my wife was pregnant, we had a cleaning service come just after we finihsed construction. After 30 min of one disappearing in the bathroom, i popped in and the cleaner was texting someone on their phone. At 180 for 2 hours for 2 people, I didnt have them come back.

$35 a week for lawn mowing sounds cheap, but it HAS to be every week at that rate. Also, you cant decide when they come, you have calls, a nice day, forget, here they come with string trimmers and leaf blowers for all of 20 mins. After that, they do a crap job, or your house is done at 4:45on a Friday when they want to go home. My lawn isnt huge, and for a few hundred I bought a decent mower, and after just 6 months, I feel I'm ahead. It takes me about an hour or so, and I somewhat enjoy it most of the time.

Want some construction done? well try to get an estimate, or one thats fair. Many contractors wont even bid a job unless it's 10k or higher. I've probably had 4 or 5 contractors come who never followed up with estimates, they are too busy with other jobs. I can't imagine if I had booked them.

Next job for me, pressure wash deck and house. Every few bucks I save, is going towards retirement

I'm not regular enough for this unfortunately. I can't be paying for multiple visits.

I am pretty young with a GF and dog but no kids so the amount of free time I have after my 40 is quite a bit. I am prefacing my post with this because I feel as though I am in the minority on this thread.

Things I pay somebody to do:

Motor and transmission work (vehicles)
Haircuts
Heavy carpentry
Restaurants/Take out (2-3x week)

When it comes to vehicles, I do whatever I feel comfortable doing with a manual and youtube close by. I actually enjoy doing vehicle/motor cycle maintenance. I buy tools when needed as I like to invest in them for future use. I am pretty "cheap" so if I can save more than I make hourly by doing a project vs paying somebody then I will do it.

Also, some peoples work is not very good.

I work hard so I can pay people to do things I don't want to do. I can enjoy my free time, sports, hobbies, pets, and family. I don't think it makes me less interesting, or lazy, to not want to do menial tasks when I get home.

I pay someone to mow my lawn. I am paying someone to build a fence. Honestly, I would probably get a maid but I am not sure how that would work with pets. I don't work on my car. I don't cut my hair.

I live near the beach and sand gets freaking everywhere. We were vacuuming every other day, so I got a robot vacuum cleaner. Huge quality of life improvement to just come home and push a button - hours and hours of time saved already.

By paying someone to do this stuff, I can also focus more on projects I actually want to work on. This year, I spent the better part of two months building a half pipe, planted a garden, and am working on building a fire pit/patio.

I could never hire someone to clean my house. The thought of someone walking around my house unattended bothers me. Probably an irrational fear but it'll never change.

I had that for a long time... especially at my old house (which was older and I would have had to give them a front door key)

In 2021?

They can open my garage on the keypad and go through that door that leads to my house... so they don't get a physical key they could pass around (that bothered me). There is an interior door that we can leave open.

I also have security cameras all over the place (driveway, front door, backdoor and 3 internal ones) which add an extra layer

I turn off 2 of the 3 the internal ones when they are there. That's super weird if I didn't. The basement one, where my cards are kept, stays on.

But I at least have some semblance of security because I can see them open the garage, walk inside, and what time they leave. They do their 3 hours, for 2 people, and leave. They are punctual as hell since they know I'm only paying them the $150 for 6 hours.

It took me a long time to get comfortable though. My wife was all about it from the get.
