super pumped to hear that no more S1 will be released. Smart move by Topps, especially since they make $ off the secondary market.

When the NFTs dropped Wax was at about $0.14. Now it is over $0.29 this morning. I am not a finance guy. I just put money into my IRA every two weeks and leave it at that. Is it correct that if a person put x amount of money into wax at the drop and just held the wax until now and cashed out that person would have doubled the money (before fees going in and out as well as taxes) or do I have a fundamental misunderstanding I need to resolve as I think about these things?

That’s correct but like you said, fees, taxes etc would have to be factored in...

But yes, wax going up is a good thing for those that started with wax when Topps launched their NFTs. I believe this is getting close to its highest value (before Topps launched) but I think it will blow past it.

I would suggest to buy another pack to open, that way you don't open your current one

Do we think prices have been at all depressed by the prospect of another release? I'm thinking about buying more packs and hoping for a little pop after people realize the situation.

Buying packs was always the long game, and those who were able to avoid the itch are the real MVPs here.

I do for sure. Could be any number of reasons. But it's one thing to think another series 1 release is unlikely; it is entirely another thing to "know" there will be no more series 1 releases. I feel like the real pickup will be when Topps announces the next release and it is not Series 1.

Seems that there is more "maintenance" going on with the ability to buy WAX again. Could this be because people heard the news last night and flooded with buy orders? Once this is corrected could a new influx in $$ create more upward movement?

I'm likely just reading into this. Still. I'm waiting for my wax that I purchased 12 hours ago and staring at a card I want but can't touch.

The frustration. It is real.

I just bought 5 more standard packs, so it's a safe bet these are headed lower in value.

I'm thinking of buying some wax and staking it. If I don't, I will probably regret it just like I regret not buying premium packs on the secondary market the night of the release for $200.

Wax was over $2 a few years ago, but over the past couple years, we are at its peak. Hard to say what wax will be at six months from now, but it looks promising to keep moving up as more people become familiar with it.

What do you guys think about the open nature of the blockchain where if you know someone’s wallet, you can get so much information about their collection and activity. I am thinking maybe owning multiple wallets will be important at some point

When will Week 3 Craft cards be leaked?

Will those who somehow find access to a leaked list buy up what they need before they post it? I would assume so.

Last week they got put up on toppsmlb.com for a minute and a few people screenshotted it and posted in the discord.

It is interesting for sure. That’s the beauty of most blockchains as everything is transparent. It may come in handy offering trades knowing what team, player or subset someone enjoys more than you do.

Good read on digital ownership.

Initially there were lots of questions on here about what happens if the server hosting your NFT's goes offline someday. Even though the blockchain offers proof of digital ownership, the actual files are not hosted on the blockchain itself. What happens if the server hosting those files eventually shuts down? This problem is being addressed by technology called IPFS.

Topps is mentioned in the article as being a user of this IPFS technology, we can all sleep a bit better knowing our NFT's live in decentralized storage and not on a private server somewhere (like Bunt/Huddle/Skate/etc.). Might also be the push needed to help get some new users into the NFT game.

Yes, I initially thought this was like TopShot. It is much better. IPFS is the future. I don't know if it's possible, but I wouldn't be surprised to see TopShot migrate to IPFS... if it's technologically possible. Until it does, you only own a number at TopShot, not the clip.

On CryptoSlam I just noticed "Market Cap" pop up. Says Topps MLB is worth just north of $38 million which is interesting. I wonder what the physical market cap on Series 1 is?
FYI Top Shot's market cap is $957 million.

What is the market cap of Top Shot's first release only to compare properly with Topps?
