I said this before but I like Pardee's work but his lack of connection to the player and the game of baseball doesn't do it for me. The Eck is a cool piece of artwork but it's just not a baseball card to me of Dennis Eckersley. I liked his Randy Johnson a lot because at least it looked like Randy and I understood what he was going for. It had a connection to both the player and baseball. Most of his other cards don't.

It just seems like those chasing the 4 packs are justifying spending the extra money as "savings" when in reality they are just buying to buy and most likely wasting their money because of FOMO and chasing incentive cards. I'd be hard pressed to spend $60 on Project70 cards instead of spending $60 on other cards that would either hold their value better or have a more special place in my collection.

In other words, I find it unlikely that 4-packs made a significant difference. A tie either way, although as far as Oldmanalan cards go, I"d say both the Piazza and Paige were well received.
I don't know how popular they are but when a perfect storm of PC/popular guys comes up for me I'll snatch it up. It's basically buy 3 get 1 free, so if I REALLY like 2 of the 4 and don't mind the other 2, then why not... worst case I can sell off the other 2 for $10-ish and break even on the ones I wanted. PLUS it seems to give you a better chance at a foil

I agree on Pardee. Great art. I love the Randy Johnson. The Willie Mays is the one that I really couldn’t get into because it looks nothing like Willie and I’m not sure what his connection to werewolves is. I few the same about Eck. It looks cool and I like the Mars Attack vibe but not sure what the connection to Eck is

Print runs seem healthy.

I did some organizing over the weekend and there are some Project 2020 artist sets that I don’t really feel need to be complete anymore.

Project 70 will cause a cull of my Project 2020 cards.

Is that first one Brittany Palmer? Not the best art for Mickey's face. Almost reminds me of Mr. Bean drawing in Mona Lisas face. Styles Gibson? I don't see the need for 2 images of him so close together. May have been stronger with just one. Another Randy Arozarena? Kind of torn on Jackie. Want to say its the best of the day but something about the excess of all the lines on the face makes me second guess that.

Haha I love Mr. Bean. It's not that bad. At least it doesn't make Mantle look like Sloth from the Goonies!

I like the Jackie. Disappointed in that Styles Gibson though. Mantle's face is way off and Randy Arozarena was a one hit wonder in the postseason last year.

I can't speak for either artist, but I'm doubtful that Blake and Jacob compared artist lists prior to submission.

What I can speak for though is why an artist might have chosen to do an Arozarena heading into this season:
"Arozarena carried Tampa Bay’s offense hitting 7 home runs in 14 postseason games prior to the World Series, becoming the first rookie position player to win the ALCS MVP. After his performance in the World Series, Arozarena would break records in home runs, hits, and total bases in a single postseason." Not bad!

Topps should make it easier to rotate cards to horizontal on their website.

Or, Styles should have just made that card vertical.

Or, both.

The Arozarena card looks really nice with the 1968 style and the purple background. I think the woven border of 1968 Topps might look pretty good on a Mimsbandz card.

Career ERA+ don't lie!
Neither do zero seasons with more than 15 wins and 75 career wins for a guy who turns 33 next week. He does look unhittable this year though.....let's see what his spin rate numbers look like from here on out.

For those who don't want to solve a captcha 3 times to see it on the Topps site:

1958 Mantle by Palmer
2011 Gibson by Styles
1968 Arozarena by Blake
1954 Jackie by Chinatown Market

Apparently DeGrom isn't the highest in terms of spin rate, he just throws the hardest.

According to baseball savant, he's 100th percentile for fastball velocity, but 79th percentile for fastball spin rate. Still, he's increased his velocity about 5 mph over the years. Whether that's due to perfecting mechanics or something else, who knows.
