I would have to have someone smuggle me into a top secret NASA round table discussing a voyage to Mars to endure this threads' amount of "expert" opinions. The lack of self awareness is alarming.

Amen. I’d assume that there are some intelligent people paying attention and prices will quickly adjust accordingly. If not, I hope they all choke on it to be honest. Increased production and a rapidly cooling wax market means adapt swiftly or watch revenues fall off a cliff.

I bought a case of these for $50 each from BO cards during 2018 Black Friday... amazing how the prices went up

Of course I ripped everything, and turned my $900 purchase into $0

I can’t believe that these would be worth $475 each, let alone $50

FYI - the reason I don’t care about my “paper” loss —- key card is Mookie’s Auto RC ——- by the time I sell ( or die 1st, if all goes as planned ) —- each box will be worth $thousands

this is variable, based on year/brand.
If it's 1983 Topps you're waiting for, good luck. If it's modern, you'll have better luck, especially BK,FB and anything outside of the big 4 sports.

and in truth, I'm looking at unopened wax that's pretty solid, even with the drop: 2000, 2017 football, 2018 BSKB, 2018 BB

Sure, some demand is gone, but I feel like a lot of the demand is just waiting patiently.

I couldn't agree more.

I have nibbled occasionaly, but nothing huge. I have no idea when bottom will hit, but I don't think we are there yet.

The bottom will come in the offseason when it looks like there will be a lockout. There's alot I want to buy but I'm putting all buying on hold except for rare stuff that I won't be guaranteed to find in that 1-2 month rock bottom window.

I kind of get the feeling that right before the National will be the floor and then the hype will begin to ramp back up during and after the National with football season coming and the baseball season getting ready for the final stretch.

This thread is constructed the same way a prospect hype thread is constructed.

That’s about when baseball is getting into the doldrums for anyone not in playoff contention, and it only gets worse from there for a few months

Sure, but it’s still better than the NFT thread. Every time they start to become self aware and realize NFTs are a partial scam and aren’t going to make them rich…. Someone comes in and says, “all of this just points to a perfect buying opportunity, guys!” to which everyone nervously agrees, breathes a sigh of relief, and the loop starts again.

I'm not ruling out that I'm crazy or that getting older is making me think a different way.
However, I'm not exactly guessing, either. I'm just telling everybody here what happened after 2003, when the graded card boom came to an end.
My warning, from the beginning has been: This has happened before.

How was the atmosphere of the hobby after the 2003 boom came to an end?

Actually I don't hate myself for saying that. I grew up in a part of the world and in an era where conducting one's self in the manner that Mr. Sports Card Investor conducts himself was seen as both embarrassing and disgraceful.

How times have changed.

Anyone with an IQ above 70 saw this coming. The great news, maybe I can start drifting back into purchasing wax to break, instead of singles. The suckers are going to get weeded out, the people that bought the things they liked, and possibly a couple of things they saw value in(For me it was Tatis Jr. rookie autos), are sitting pretty.

If 'pigs' is a reference to greedy distributors I'm all for it.

Opening wax is/was my absolute favourite thing in the hobby( as I suspect it is for most) and it's been lean these past 15 months.
