Default Future Outlook for Trading Card Industry/Hobby

Hello Blowout Forum members. I am not new to trading cards but new to posting on this forum. I'm not sure if this is being posted in the correct category so I apologize if it's wrong.

Here are my questions: What are your opinions on the future of the trading card industry/hobby in one year, three years, 10 years, etc...?

If you could change anything about this industry/hobby what would it be?

I appreciate any feedback. Getting back into this hobby is exciting.

Prices of everything will go up (wax, cards, grading submissions, monthly subscription services, etc).

More technological platforms will pop-up. I'm still waiting for the day where you can scan a card (with a smart phone camera) and it'll know all card details, provide recent sales info, estimate the grade (as well as allow you to select a grading service to submit to much like how shipping labels are created for UPS/USPS/FedEx/etc) and enable you to list with auto-filled information on various platforms (eBay, mercari, etc).

Would love to see the creation of some at-home grading equipment.

as long as you limit your collection to rare Riley Pint unlicensed gold vinyls, you'll do fine.

The good cards will go up, the bad cards will go down.

I just want Topps to lose its exclusive. I still want them involved, 100%, but I'd give up 2.5% of my collection to get Upper Deck back in the game.

Bernie Sanders becomes president in 4 years and equally divides all cards across all collectors and hobby enthusiasts. Prices are not allowed to go up or down. Then, 4 years after that, Gary V becomes president and then signs an executive order that everyone must turn in all cards that they own or risk prison time. He then starts tweeting about his investment and proceeds to sell everything at record prices. We later find out that Gary V is the long lost son of Bernie. It was a setup from the start. Bernie wanted to corner the market on all Riley Pint cards. Sadly, there is 1 man who is still doing federal time over refusing to turn over one of his Riley Pint cards.

I don't really have a finger on my pulse of all the new products, nor do I participate in breaks, etc. From a vintage card perspective, I do think we can enjoy a very good outlook. I think that the more time goes on, the more key vintage pieces will be more sought after than art.

Outside of my Canseco collection, I've bought & sold TONS of cards, and none have really captured my full attention quite like pre war vintage key cards. There is just something about them.

I spoke about this in an interview last week - when push comes to shove, I think there are more higher earning folks out there nowadays with a "toy" vehicle and vintage cards that would put their car on the market before moving their favorite cards.

As for things I would change ... hmm ... well ... I'd get rid of scammers, and people who needlessly bash others to look cool online. This world is full of negativity - I wish for everyone to find this hobby as uplifting and enjoyable.

The hobby’s become too complex with too many scammers preying on people’s good intentions.

In less than two years there will be many high-profile federal arrests with people connected to the ongoing grading card fraud.

In less than five years, technology will be able to duplicate most existing cards and the grading companies - assuming they still exist - will continue to be ineffective catching them just as they’ve been mostly ineffective catching altered cards for decades.
