I thought it was 1958. They'll fix that, right? Also, other than a quality control issue to jab at Topps, why does it actually matter? Not trying to be a pain; I just don't know why that's any worse than listing the player name as Jim Abbot or Fernado Tatis or Vladimir Gurrero [sic].

Sure is. What a shame. Never's cards had been getting better and better in my opinion too. This one would kill the poster too.

Yes, for at least two reasons:

1. If PR/foil chasing is a thing, there will be an upward reaction to Don C's low PR.

2. The Wotherspoon is a better card.

If they fix it, I agree it doesn't matter. There was one other card so far that had it listed wrong on the back of the card preview, but I forgot which one it was so I never checked the one I got to see if they fixed it or not. Most of the other ones were just wrong in the item listing, but had the correct year on the back of the card (CRAOLA Clemens for example). The fact that I forgot what the other card was does kind of reinforce your point that it doesn't really matter.

I'm digging the Raines today. On the other hand, I saw the Futura and thought "Didn't he do that one already?"

I really like the warriors reference but the likeness seems a little off for Never's Alonso, which is surprising for him. May still pick up the card to support his set. The Naturel Raines looks fantastic but I wish he'd wrap up the sky blue stuff. Futura's set will have a nice consistency but remains underwhelming.

A complete project 70 set doesnt include any companions they are not produced by Topps. Just a way for artists to make an extra 500k off addicts

And I'm glad they do. I hope every one of the artists in this set makes a crap ton of money. Even if we don't like what they're doing with these cards, being an artist takes even more in guts than it takes in talent. And if you look at the body of work that many of them have done (Simkins, for example), it takes a ton of talent.

IMO it's a good idea to go on the site and take a look at the cards first without looking at this thread so you don't form any type of biases from reading others comments.

I like the Raines and Musial. The Raines is a winner if you going for the Naturel set and the Musial is a nice simple card design. Both not $20 cards IMO but i'm sure someone will love both of them even at that price.

I always thought the Warriors was one of the most over rated movies ever made and don't care for the artwork either on the Alonso card. The Futura Carew is average and im not a fan of the way how the background works with the actual players on the card.

I didn't even know what the Never card was referencing. Never saw The Warriors. Still hate it now that I know.

I like this as a 1958 Topps card that never was, but I'm not totally feeling the feather theme. Is it just referencing Staples' pigeon brand?

I disagree that it kills the poster, since it fits in with the pop culture themes he's been hitting on his last few cards. Also, he has other cards that are dark (Babe) or have a glow (Griffey).

But, it's not my favorite since it looks too dark and distant, like he's trying too hard to capture the ambience of The Warriors. It doesn't totally translate to the card.

INSIGHT REQUEST FROM SET COLLECTORS

Over the two projects, some people have chimed in that they are ending their player or artist run. If you are one of these people, do you mean...

A. you are ending the run and you're done with getting any future cards of that artist or player?

or

B. your run is ending, but you'll still get future cards of the artist or player that interest you?

If A., is this because you are mainly a full set collector? Do you get rid of what you have? I almost always* take a buy-what-I-like mindset, so I'm interested in understanding varying approaches.

Just curious. Thanks.

*I did pre-order P70 Ermsy and Naturel sets from Wheeler though.

Kill the poster? If you are looking for consistent theming and design, he hasnt had one for 4 cards now when compared to his first 3. The card before this Baseball Furies card was face-tattoo Babe Ruth and before that Duck Hunt Randy. The first three may as well have been 1 to 1 recreations of existing baseball cards.

Probably.

There is only one bird team left though.

He's done subway tiles and feathers.

Any predictions on his next theme?

Good point. I had forgotten about face tattoo Babe.

Oh I'm happy for them as well. I'm glad when anyone makes more money there is enough to go around for all us. Seeing Blake's life change last year (because of his great work and his even better marketing skills) and see him continue to grow and other artists as well, it's an amazing thing.

But no collector should feel the need to have all the companions or they dont have the complete set, save the money and buy an original piece from one of the artists. Alot more special imo

I'm in bin B because I am still mostly buying individual cards that I like, Naturel Raines as an example. But ending an artist run means I'll no longer be eligible for the gold-stamped special super awesome poster. I'm still guaranteed to get a few from Wheeler artist sets, but others I have to make a decision on each release day--or within a few days after--if I'm going to continue from Topps. At this point, for most of those I'm intending to complete the artist set, not necessarily because I'm a "traditional set collector", but because collecting an artist set makes sense in this context. (Easier to justify buying 20 cards than hundreds). And although my expectations are low, I am intrigued by those posters!

This. My most treasured item from my Project 2020 / Project70 collection is the 1951 Boggs that Blake Jamieson gave me, even though my gold 1/1 Buster Posey is probably worth the most.
