Default Inability to sort by sport on ebay

I feel like this is curbing my add on purchases.
In the past anytime I had serious intent on winning an auction I'd spend a few mins searching sellers other items to see if I could add something for .25 or .50 cheap additional shipping. Id regularly be winning 4-6 cards from one seller. Stuff I didnt love or need to have but more like some new candy bar at the checkout aisle- an impulse buy.
Since the shift to "trading card singles" Im regularly clicking that link, seeing a bunch of hoops or soccer or UFC or role playing gaming cards and just saying nah...and stop looking.
Wondering if this is affecting other's buying habits and also, are you seeing less multiple card buyers if listing auctions from all sports to end on the same day?
Curious

I have a couple of generic searches the have been rendered useless by this feature. They were my main searches two years ago.

I haven't had any combined shipping due to lack of buying lately, but I agree with you: this is totally annoying and I will buy less. I check every seller that offers combined shipping but have ZERO interest in anything but baseball. If I have to wade through 100s of football I'm just going to go (Gallo, Heliot) and call it a day.

I've basically stopped trying to add on unless it's a small time seller like myself that only has 20-80 items listed at a time where it just takes a few minutes to browse. I used to look over PCSportscards and would sort by baseball and search psa 10 (auto, autograph) just to see if there was anything else, but now I get 75% unwanted results.

So annoying. I also had a couple really broad searches that I used, not anymore. Great job eBay

If eBay removed the "Not Specified" category and forced sellers to properly categorize the card by sport, a lot of this headache would be alleviated.

yeah, pretty much screwed all of my saved searches. I just delete the email messages now. I'm buying less as a result.

They changed it slightly but you can still search their other items by each sport. On the left side it goes category - format - season - sport I use a PC so it may be different on a phone. What I've been looking for is how to search just baseball and exclude the zero bid auctions. I'd settle for all sports stuff as long as it had 1+ bids and it would let me go beyond 1 page worth.

That is where it's headed, they just can't do it at one time. First it was a suggestion, then they gave a heads up that changes were coming, then they made the change and said soon it will be mandatory.

All that's left is for them to make it mandatory. Once that happens all of these listing hassles will be in the past.

Searching anything on ebay has been frustrating for years. This just made it even worse. People that add misleading “non” (and similar bs) in their title and ebay 1/1s should have their ebay accounts suspended.

I've started reporting these listings. I'm sure the 1 out of 10,000 I report has no affect but I can't stand it. I will continue to report them, maybe that seller will stop doing it, who knows.

Ever since ebay has done this my sports card buying is down to almost 0% I have only bought 10 cards since they implemented this when I used to buy a couple hundred.

eBaY is making a fortune from their SportsCards Auctions - a TON of cash. So, they thought it would be a good idea ( apparently, and again .... ) to make a whole buncha’ changes that make doing business with them a COMPLETE f-ing NIGHTMARE

Ebay is really becoming a mess from the buyers perspective....their search functions have gone to hell in a handbasket as well.

Often when I do player searches, the results have all sorts of random players mixed in with the player I'm searching for.

I just had a bunch of Sidney Crosby cards turn up in my "Buster Posey" search.....

Agree. Gets annoying when I have to quote everything I search for and then add:

-break -box -leaf -XYZ just to narrow down to the actual thing I'm looking for.

Yep. I put -non when I'm looking for an auto and then don't take it out when I'm looking for non auto color. Those guys annoy me that much.

Me too. My Joey Gallo searches have been hilarious.

Looks like July 12th is the target rollout for their overhaul. From what I can see it’ll force you to select a sport, is it graded (with additional drop down boxes for grades and TPG), and a handful of other things, some of the changes used to be optional but looks like eBay will force a few item specifics to be selected before listing. Hopefully this clumping all cards together into 1 category is short lived.
