Thumbs down Soroka Re-Tears Achilles

What bad luck for this dude.

Atlanta Braves @Braves
Medical Update on Mike Soroka –
This past Thursday while walking to the clubhouse at Truist Park, Mike Soroka felt a pop in his right Achilles. An MRI was performed, which revealed a complete re-tear of the tendon. Soroka will require season-ending surgery, which will be scheduled within the week.

Ugh. Is this technically a career-ender? I know his age but 2 like this? Seems tragically doubtful. Absolute bummer for the ATL franchise.

Well crap, this ruins my day. Real bummer for him, just shows you the difficulty of durability for pitchers, he had no injury issues coming through the minors and then one thing after another one he hit the bigs.

Still pulling for him obviously, but seems like the odds are really stacking up against him at this point.

Damn. Sometimes you get tested too early in life. I think he will be a great comeback story in 2023

Damn. In a world of throw flames first and learn nuance and command later he seemed to be an anomaly.
Bravos have had a seriously bad run of pitcher luck lately it seems.

He was walking around the clubhouse and felt a pop?!?! Wtf?!?! Who did the surgery and how did they not take baby steps when there was a set back in the spring, and/or why not redo the surgery that was obviously botched.

Having torn mine once, I can’t imagine rehabbing after surgery twice, and doing so with an idea of competing at a professional level.

It sucks, but definitely not a career ender.

Got the doctor who did Kevin Durant's surgery to do it. Get the team who set up Durant's rehab schedule to work with him. At least you know they know how to do it right.

Very true. In fact, this may be great for his career. Two years with no wear on his arm is a good thing. The fewer innings you pitch before age 24 the better. If you look at a lot of HOFers, most of them didn’t get really going until 24.

Just terrible. The guy was an absolute stud. Then he had issues with the sutures, and now his Achilles - which everyone was very excited about being fully healed last week - pops again. Awful.

Default Soroka Re-Tears Achilles

Have a gold RC of him from Update. Should have sold it before first tear. Whoops.

Good chance he comes back in 22/23 though. Science is improving

Real problem is, you almost expect pitchers to miss 1.5 years to elbow issues at this point. But he’s going to miss at least 2 years to his Achilles.

Adam Wainwright is a comp. hall of fame talent. But he missed for Tommy John and he missed just one year for Achilles. And he’s going to need an extremely strong finish this year, an equally good year next year and a very friendly vets committee at least to sniff the hall.

This is the same thing that happened to Jake Burger correct? Or was his each Achilles once at separate times? Either way, he is performing well now as an infielder which I would think ( I’m clearly not an orthopedic expert) puts more strain on the Achilles. Kid has a lot of talent so hope he can get through the physical and mental part of this.

Sucks to hear, that can’t be good for his doctors or trainers reputations. I hope the best for him and hope he gets back on the mound.
