I have a random thought: what do Gen Z and younger collectors think of cards that feature a wooden TV frame (i.e. Topps 1966 hockey)? I'm on the older end of the millennial age range. I recognize that the card portrays wood-grained TV of yesteryear -- perhaps because there were still a few around during my childhood years in the 90s. However, the wooden frame doesn't inspire much nostalgia in me. I feel a bit guilty admitting this because I know this is a prominent set!
But for the younger collectors in the crowd -- are you a fan? Or does the design feel a bit foreign and not nostalgia inducing? |

I am what one would call a late boomer, but I have always disliked the woodgrain/mottled motif whether including a CRT frame or just as is (think Topps 1962 and 1968 baseball). I've collected them because they are what's there, but there were not favorites.

I grew up in the sixties and the TV frame cards were among the worst designs in my opinion.

Older millennial here. I love them! I especially like the the 55 Bowman, but I also like the 87 Topps wood grain and the 1968 burlap.

Always hated 55 Bowman, I just think it looks cheap and cheesy. 87 Topps is ok I guess but 86 is way better IMO. When I got back into the hobby I was shocked that 87 Topps had the reputation it does now.

I don't like them. Don't like 55 Bowman. Hate '87 Topps. And I suppose I tolerate '62 Topps, which is clearly the best of those three options.

Both '86 and '87 Topps are absolutely putrid IMO. Especially after a solid '84 set and a really nice '85 set. No offense and just one opinion of millions of course!

I really like the 55 Bowman because of the design. It's like a period piece to me. To each their own...

I'm pretty neutral.
Generally speaking, I'm a big fan of colorful designs, so I don't like designs without color, i.e. 1955 Bowman, 1962 Topps, 1968 Topps, 1970 Topps, etc. |

I love them, specifically 1966 Topps hockey. Captures some history outside the sport.

Just going to stick with the TV framed cards.... 55 Bowman baseball, 66 Topps football and hockey. Hate the design but I understand if it was time appropriate.
I really wish I could get into the 55 Bowman but as much as I've tried, I just can't do it. So many great players in the set. Centered cards look off-centered to me. It makes my head spin. |
