Only a couple rogue 2k ones. An auction for 1725 is spectacular. The bigger question is why auction after auction go higher than the bins at 1550 and 1600. Consistently.

Didn’t even hit a HR today. No wonder prices are plummeting.

Well folks I really rolled the dice tonight. I picked up a 2018 Topps Update Silver pack Raw Red Refractor 3/5 for 3K. Normally, I wouldn’t pay that much for a raw card but the only small issue seems to be is that it is a bit off centered. The corners are sharp. My weak justification is that like a lot of the members here I have been quite fortunate with a 2017 Topps Now Black Label and a 2018 BC auto 9.5/10 at very low prices. Unlike any other player including Trout, the minute Shohei makes contact with the ball you know immediately whether it’s gone or not. I experienced it first hand on July 4th at the Big A. Here’s hoping that he puts on a show (know pun intended) in Denver at the Home Run Derby

I have a 2018 Topps 1983 Red to /25 auto at BGS.
Let's say it comes back a 9.5 what do you guys think it could be worth? It's a batting photo. |

I'm commenting on here not to pump or discuss Ohtani cards -- do his cards even need to be pumped? I'm instead here to post a link to this exhausting article written by Mike Petriello published today on MLB.com:
https://www.mlb.com/news/featured/sh...life-superhero If you had any doubts Ohtani is one of the very greatest athletes to ever play MLB, your doubts will be trampled on when you read the article; warning: the article is dissertation length. |

Been looking on 130point throughout the day...the market seems very euphoric...and then you see someone that gets a great deal/steal! I am not an experienced collector, but has anyone seen a market rise this rapidly and steeply before?

Have you seen the basketball spike last year? Ohtani cards don't even come close to some cards that peaked during last year

I don't collect basketball, but I do follow Michael Jordan cards from 1986-1990 as I collected those as a kid. I also know that Kobe spiked after his untimely tragic death. In general I assume that when a spike like this happens it does not end that well for most collectors that buy the peak. But I actually don't think we are even near the peak with Ohtani for many reasons.

Unlike the vintage basketball spike, which was an entire market jumping in a uniform fashion for no logical reason other than pumping and rapidly increasing FOMO… Ohtani’s spike is based on 1. Insane Performance 2. Unicorn quality of being an elite Pitcher AND Hitter 3. Overseas attention Yes, this is a rapid increase, but there are reasons. If he somehow breaks the LEGIT non-steroid aided HR record while simultaneously putting up even above average numbers as a pitcher, things are going to go absolutely BANANAS. Reminds me of Luka’s rise in his cards when he first broke out. Anyway what you’re describing is peak FOMO for most and I’ll wait to buy at a dip! (If there ever is one) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I only own one even half decent Ohtani card, so I’m not sitting here pumping a stash, but I’m just trying to explain that IF Ohtani keeps performing like this at the plate and on the mound, we aren’t even close to the peak. There’s definite FOMO going on right now, but there is actually real justification for it. People like me who don’t drop thousands at a time on one card will be priced out of everything quality in a hurry. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I got gas today and the little TV screen at the pump was showing Ohtani highlights...

It's happening...slowly but surely Ohtani will be creeping into American pop culture, will be inevitable if he keeps this up for a few years
