Typical teenage slasher type film with a little twist. I didn’t think it was that bad, but I wasn’t expecting much going into it. It looks like it’s going to be a series of movies.

Not sure of the age range on here, but I grew up reading Goosebumps and Fear Street novels and even though the movie was mediocre overall, I thought they did a good job with easter eggs for other movies, such as Jaws, Poltergeist, Scream, etc....while also giving a nod to RL (Robert Lawrence) Stein in the movie.
Was it great? No. But will I watch the trilogy? 100%. |

Fairly meh.
If you want to see the same story done wayyyyy better check out Laika Studio’s ParaNorman. I think what turned me off a bit was the same thing that stuck out in Raya: The characters obviously and anachronistically act and talk just like kids today. It breaks any kind of illusion that your watching a film in the depicted time or setting. (Not that this is necessarily a bad thing, A Knight’s Tale is a good example of how to do this.) I didn't realize they were releasing these on consecutive weeks. Cool concept.
I watched 1976 over the weekend. It was entertaining as well. Looking forward to the last installment on Friday. |

I think they were intended to be released theatrically, but like with a lot of other movies this past year and a half, the streamers (like Netflix) swooped in and bought them when there weren't any cinemas open to show them in.
The first two were pretty good, with a lot of nods to classic horror movies. They do seem like an odd hybrid in that much of them play like PG-13 movies intended for teenagers, until the graphic murders, which are largely over the top, much to the delight of the gorehounds who gave these a chance. The finale is set in 1666, the beginning of the curse. Hopefully, it'll finish strong.

I'm not normally too critical of movies as long as they entertain me for the duration. These both worked for me. So far both movies have kept my interest. Looking forward to 1666.

Watched them both and was pretty surprised by how violent they were.

Yeah, it's a weird mix of PG and solid R. I think there's some novelty with the RL Stine type horror characters from his books intended for younger readers suddenly becoming particularly vicious murderers. They are constantly homaging pretty violent stuff (Scream, Halloween, Friday the 13th, Evil Dead, etc.) in these movies, and doing it justice.
Also, these NetFlix movies seem to have an unlimited music budget, as evidenced by the songs they're able to license. That does add a touch of class. A lot of these films have generic pop & rock songs, sung by unknowns. It's been one big hit after another on this soundtrack. Finale should be live at Midnight tonight, the witching hour, quite appropriate here.

It hampered the "Back to the Future" trilogy, having the finale set in the Old West.
I'm sure they'll wrap it up in modern times, which would be 1994 for this one. Maybe they'll flash-forward to 2021 and set up a sequel at the very end. I'm hoping to watch it this evening, but might not be able to until Monday night.

Watched parts 1 & 2 and starting on 3. While they're by no means masterpieces, they definitely are entertaining and worth a watch. Better than I expected going into them.
