Default Tua Tagovailoa

(If there’s an already existing official thread for him and I missed, I’m sorry. Please direct me to it, and I will use that one.)

Tua’s prices are at bargain basement levels right now, all things considered. I’m buying some low-end cards here and there. Massively increased print runs are also helping to keep prices low I’m sure.

What are everyone’s expectations on him? Anyone else buying on the dip? I think he can turn things around, but I can’t say I’m fully sold on him. He looked small out there last year and struggled to get the ball down field.

2020 isn’t a fair year to be judging rookies, so I’m willing to give him a pass, and overall I think the Dolphins will be a slightly improved team from last year.

He sucks. The best case scenario is that he was awful last year because he hadn’t fully recovered from his hip surgery and this year he will be fully healthy. But even in that scenario he will be no better than league average

The thing you gotta remember about Tua last year and Mac Jones this year is they played at Alabama with probably the best offensive support in college football history. How would you like to throw to Ruggs, Jeudy, Waddle, and Devonta Smith? Hand the ball off to Damien Harris and Najee Harris? All backed up back mammoth 5 star OL? I guess what I’m saying is jury is out on the Bama QBs that have to adjust to not having Bama level support around them at the NFL level. Wait and see with these guys.

Harsh take! But I appreciate you taking the time to reply… haha.

I don’t totally disagree with you, but I think he could have elite level accuracy, so if he can just gain a little arm strength and learn the playbook more, he could be a poor’s man Drew Brees. Obviously I’m a long-suffering Fins homer, so I’m straining hard to see any upside, but it’s there.

Very good points. I worried about those thing as well as that draft approached. Alabama QBs haven’t fared well in the NFL since Broadway Joe.

I think he sucks. Simply doesn't have the arm. Doesn't pass the eye test whatsoever. You'd be better off with Rosen.

I’m a Bama fan so I will unashamedly show my bias. I think he has a huge sophomore surge and shows that he can be a franchise QB. He has Mahomes like ability to turning a negative play into a highlight and has great anticipation and accuracy. I think the hip, and mental hurdles of overcoming the injury, combined with being thrust into action early last year didn’t do him any favors from a public perception standpoint.

Rosen? Let’s be rational here…

You sound more optimistic than me! I’m glad someone feels that way.

Your second statement contradicts your first. Therefore he’s clearly the next Dan Marino.

I said ohtani was over rated and will be a bust

He’s never coming back from surgery

Keep that in mind

I don’t like tua size build or arm.

I don’t think he will ever be a franchise qb

The NFL and college for that matter are getting away from that prototypical QB height. An athletic 6'0ish seems to be the norm lately with Kyler and Wilson just below that.

Totally agree, but Tua doesn’t have the elite athleticism of Kyler, or the elite mind/leadership of Russell.

I was hoping people would cheer me up on Tua and convince me that he’ll be just fine… but I guess everyone is worried as I am, or worse.

*gulp*

I saw nothing from him last year that made me particularly optimistic about his upside. However, there are a couple of things working in his favor that should keep him relevant. 1. He has a strong group of wide receivers and 2. He plays in the AFC East (which just hasn’t been the same since Tom Brady left the patriots, though I know Buffalo / Josh Allen fans would say otherwise…)

So, he came back from a catastrophic injury in a year, and, while arriving for his rookie year, had to endure his first season during the most unusual circumstances in NFL history. The prior 2 years, #TankforTua trended everywhere. Yes, I think the hobby has given up on him too quickly. For investment purposes, I'd rather 2 Tuas over 1 Herbert. I know I'm in the minority, but I believe that Tua can still be a stud.

This is tempting but his arm strength is what really makes me nervous. I don’t think you can be successful without a somewhat strong arm. Im not saying that short term games aren’t possible but I can’t see how this is a good long term play.

Not throwing in the towel yet though. The play calling did him zero favors last year. It was all short drops and 5 yard passes. Should change this year with Waddle. We’ll see.

Yeah, but why was that? He looked like crap trying to move the ball deeper down the field.

The hope is that he wasn't healthy last year. His arm looked better in college.

Every QB from Bama looks better in college. You basically have the best player at every position. When you have a ton of time in college from your OL it’s too easy.

Don’t forget Parker, Fuller and Gesicki. If he can’t get it down with that group then you’ll be worried. But he’s still young. It takes time to get used to the left handed QB as well. They’re all so used to right handers.

Playbook will open up for sure.

I mean in actually physically throwing the ball.
