IMO the key here is to grab or collect something that may not be desirable now, but sentiment could easily change many years down the road.... or... #junkslabera

You know no one cared about Prizm for years.
2012-13 hobby boxes were $40.

Prizm, Chrome, Young Guns, etc. It's all ugly garbage at the end of the day.
Only desirable because enough sheep follow it.

Mike Trout 2012 Prizm was very undesirable by the hobby and purists but now enough Prizm sheep got created that's its a big card and desirable.

Net Marvels is a stupid insert but....you get the idea.

I think prizm did have a relatively decent following, but I agree with you for the most part - especially regarding the 2012 trout prizm. But in this case, I think the set would have to really gain some traction before it's time to focus on pop reports (base pops especially.) For Illusions to become popular at this point would need an outside force to influence it.

And that is exactly what this thread is attempting and why it was created.

Are there any cards that you actually like? Or are they all crap? And this Zion Illusions PSA 10 is the perfect example of why pop count isn’t everything. I actually like the Illusions set, I think they are nice looking cards (especially the Starlight parallel), but overall most people probably won’t ever care. There are too many 2019-20 sets, and they can’t all be popular.

However, I disagree with what some others have said about this card not being worth grading. Have you seen all the paper Chronicles cards that were graded? Most of those are a dime a dozen raw, and look at the pop reports. People didn’t grade this one as much because it’s super condition sensitive, and the PSA 10 percentage proves that. Having said that, it still won’t ever be popular enough to really make a difference.

Same thoughts here - I like the look of the cards, but I've always considered it a collector's set (kind of like these new Mosaic soccer sets). I have a decent stack that I'll eventually send in to PSA.

Tried to gem a Dragic Starlight last year (I PC all Slovenians hehe), but only received a 9. The back's pretty clean too, just slightly off-center.

For me, I’m not really concerned of anyone likes this product. I just kinda buy what I like, and I LOVE the starlights, so I’ll keep picking them up. They really do look awesome to my eyes. If one day they take off, that’s cool by me. But being able to pick them up so cheaply now is what makes it so fun.

Im curious what the consensus is on print run for the starlights though? 200? Is there any way to give an educated guess or is it all speculation?

Will we ever find something that k13 does like? Besides bums like Nassir Little and Mac McClung

I actually like slabs of stuff like this, because it would be a lower pop. But, I am not going to spend the time or money to grade it and I'm certainly not going to pay anyone a premium because "pop 3".

Paying $150 for a psa 10, from this product, is absurd to me.

the low POP thing matters to some people, and that's fine. I had 2 of the Court Kings First Steps PSA 10s, which have a ridiculous gem rate of 11 PSA 10s out of 251 cards graded, and sold them for like 6x multipliers of what PSA 9s go for. I don't care about Illusions though, and TBH don't want it to become a thing, solely for the purpose of making OP's pump fail and giving him an actual reason to be miserable.

Kinda crazy that he claims that basketball is his "favorite sport" in another thread. I thought being miserable was his favorite sport

Guys, this product was released too close to PSA shutting down. There is tons of this garbage sitting in PSA bulk subs.

I should know. I have tons of RJ and Rui garbage at PSA right now!

Yeah but how many Zions will come back as a 10? Probably not a ton, if the current gem % stays relatively consistent. I opened a bunch of Illusions and didn’t send in one base card that I pulled from a pack. I did send some inserts and things like that, and some of those got 10s, but no base.

Maybe the pop counts will be lower relative to Prizm but they will rise.

But unlikely to rise much given the gem rate.

I purchased about 15-20 Lebron Starlights and none of them will grade a PSA 10 so I just bought one. The pop may hit 10-20 but and I will probably buy those to.

No idea how it will pan out but I really like the Starlights (retail only) which are according to Panini " on the rare side" ?

I also like the Mystique white color it looks really nice in hand.

That Starlight available?

I love the Mystiques but hate that they made a bunch of different colors. They should have only made the white versions and made it a case hit or tougher. Coulda been one of the hits of the year.

It isn't lol! I really do like them and really don't believe there will be a large pop so def going to be apart of the pc for a while!

There really isn't many Mystique colors that I can find.
Hobby has White which is case hit hard to get?, Gold /10, and the 1/1 Purple.
The retail is where the colors come in with pink being the hardest to hit.

I like them either way and think the white ones are fire!

I get why people chirp about graded bass, (I can only speak for myself here) but I only slab for PC.

Have some time to kill, so here's a backstory to how I became a quasi-Brow stan:

As my avatar suggests, one of my other hobbies is gaming (specifically basketball video games). I've been playing them since Jordan vs. Bird on 8-bit Nintendo, and my all-time favorite is the original NBA Jam. A couple years ago, I was playing a ton of NBA 2K20. Most people hate the series, but I thought that entry actually had fairly solid gameplay.

The only mode I like to play is MyTeam - you open up virtual packs of cards, and if you want to play against someone online, your roster has to consist of players in your card collection. It's like if Panini came out with a video game, and your ten best Prizm NFT's are the players on your squad, something like that. There's a virtual marketplace where you can buy/sell/trade your cards, as well.

Anyways, the best card I acquired was a galaxy opal Anthony Davis. They basically made him unstoppable ala Bo Jackson in Tecmo Bowl

This dude carried me to so many online victories. Ultimately worthless victories, but they were mine goddamit!

Sorry for derailing OP's thread.

Nobody liked alot of Luka's lower end cards also-until they realized he was the real deal. Aesthetically probably his best rookie especially the Starllights In time their will be a demand because of the low pop

Emerald, Gold, Green, Orange, Pink, Purple and Sapphire. It was just so unnecessary to add all the parallels when the Whites were hard enough to hit and look great.
