Default Upper Deck AEW set details revealed... and it's kind of brutal!!!

I just saw the link for the official details of the new AEW set and it is ROUGH!!! Autographs fall 4... PER CASE (16 boxes) relics fall 8 per case. A quarter of the boxes in each case wont have a hit of any kind!!!

I am deeply disappointed and this to me is a huge missed opportunity for UD. I can't possibly see where these boxes will have any kind of value per box. Wrestling has a tried and true formula. All UD had to do was follow the format of Topps products and include at least one hit per box. I know I will just be picking up singles for this release.

Edited- added a link for the details

This is exactly what I expected when I first heard UD got the license. Sucks for sure. The ONLY reason this will ever potentially have or hold value is because it’s the first ever AEW set. If they continue this trend through any other sets, it’s going to kill any potential for these cards. Sucks

While not ideal. Would be nice if it was 8 autos/8 relics per 16 box case but hopefully with not a lot of autos out there they will retain value and also with it being the first set.

Hopefully UD does one or two sets a year unlike Topps who has multiple sets a year with an auto in each box which is why I think they don't retain that much value besides the top performers.

depends as well on how much boxes will sell for. if they are $150, then bad, if they are $49, may not be as bad

Very good point. Hopefully they are sub $100. Maybe $75?

Looking at the preview pictures… is it just me or has Darby Allin decided to sign like ‘Dean Ambrose’?

Yeah, it definitely looks like Dean Ambrose's autograph.

One of the designers probably looked at the wrong sticker sheet for the mock-up.

Really disappointed with this. I’ll probably just stick to buying singles now

When I first heard about this I was pretty sure I was gonna buy a case. Now maybe two boxes, one to keep and one to open. Now it's all about the box price.

Another of the large sports card stores had this up for pre-order today at 99.95 a box.

At 100 a box there is just no value being given to the customer. When Topps can do a set with 1 autograph AND 1 relic per box for under 100 there is just no excuse. The possibility of paying 100 dollars and receiving base cards a couple of inserts and maybe a numbered card is just ridiculous!!! I am a fan not a flipper or reseller but even being a big AEW fan I can't justify spending money on a product like this.

This looks like a 2006 era UD release. Sticker autos, lame designs, small patch windows, and nothing new/innovation. Throw in the modern day too many parallels and you have yourself a very forgettable product.

This is why I laugh when basketball/football folks lament no UD and can't wait for them to "make a comeback".

Singles will be crazy expensive when it drips because it's the 1st and fans want product, but it's going to be so hard to move boxes. Gonna suck for breakers which I guess could he good as box prices won't be kept high, but it will keep singles off the market to a degree without vast quantities being broken.

$100 for a box of nothing is just too harsh. How could they not at least have relics in every box?

Yeah, pretty disappointed in this. I'm not much of an AEW fan but was excited about the prospect of another player in the wrestling card market. No way I'm touching this at $100/box.

I recently found out about the All In card set from 2008. What's everyone's thoughts on that as the "real" first AEW set?

It isn't ... as AEW didn't exist at the time. Call it the AEW XRC set.

I was so excited to lay down money on a case of this without question, but yeah, can't justify that much when these could drastically drop if they don't sell well. Too bad, but maybe they will adjust things for the next go around if there is one?

They probably will be over $100 a box and probably closer to $200 and sale out in minutes.

People are hungry for these.

I was hoping that Brodie Lee would have a card in the set, something for me to chase, or even an insert tribute set...

Based on distributor preorder pricing, I'd say a $100/box ceiling out of the gate is a pretty safe bet. Based on box configuration, I'd be a bit bumfuzzled if prices pushed north of that. But if anything has proved true in the last couple of years, it's that fans are wildly loyal to brands and will lap up whatever those brands are pushing... so who knows.

Based on the roster at the time of this hitting production, I have a hard time figuring the auto checklist would offer enough of a chase to justify an inflated price, but that's just me.

Just a thought should have done the Tristar format 3 to 4 hits per box usually 1 to 3 autos, 1 possible relic and a numbered card
