Cons: have zero experience producing sports cards, have zero access to Topps' intellectual property However, as others have noted, Fanatics could easily buy Topps, lock, stock, and barrel. MUDS is currently valued at around $500 million. Fanatics is currently valued at around $18 billion. |

Collectors are fickle, they still hate Panini after all these years.
Look how hard it is for any grading company to gain ground over PSA. Baseball can have decades in between good rookie classes. Could be a beautiful disaster. |

I just heard about this. I don’t know how I feel about this. I am sadden. Baseball cards have been 80% of my childhood growing up. And it’s still a big part of my life today.
Anyone know a good therapist?

Also... after what Panini just did with Select brand, I'm fine if they go.

It’s not surprising, as topps’s venture capital owners were Looking to sell in 2018. And this MUDS deal no Is all about getting rid of the venture capital partners and making Torrante some sweet money.

Seriously though, is this what we are looking at:
2022 - Topps releases cards with player likenesses and team branding 2023 - Fanatics releases cards of the players but with no team logos; Topps signs some players to deals and releases cards with names and logos 2024 - ditto 2023 2025 - Fanatics releases cards with player names and branding. Topps can sign players and releases cards but they can’t show logos. |

Harder and harder to find a good licensed therapist with Fanatics buying them all out.

I give up. Just… let Fanatics do their thing, I know I lost my battle. Please just release a factory base set of all the players like I’ve gotten for 30+ years.
And yes, I have reached the ‘bargaining’ stage of my DABDA grief chart. |

What If...
Fanatics bought the MLB and MLBPA licenses instead of directly buying out Topps? Maybe Topps didn't want to sell? Hostile takeover? Maybe Fanatics knew that kind of news would be negative and we have yet to see the power play where they swoop in and now acquire Topps and keep the Topps/Bowman names and people wont hate Fanatics. |

And that exclusive MLBPA license is the game changer from what we have now. Barry Bonds is the only player I can think of that didn't join the association |

Now, Fanatics would of course operate Topps quite differently. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk |

Have a deal with the union grants you rights to any player in the Union. That player can still grant their own rights outside of that in addition to union rights. This was essentially the ARod saga, no? Signed exclusive rights with that minor league card set. Once he hit the majors everyone but Topps issued his cards because they had mlbpa rights. Topps did also but insisted on individual contracts also. |

You understand it the same way that I do In addition, I believe a player can choose to not be part of the MLBPA deal, and just not receive whatever share of compensation comes from it… doesn’t mean they stop being part of the MLBPA Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
