Default Our 12th Year Anniversary Gift To Ourselves: 2009 Classics Curry Auto /499 (BGS 9)

My wife & I just recently celebrated our 12th year anniversary. We decided to buy something together to spoil ourselves. We bought a 2009 Classics Stephen Curry Auto /499 (BGS 9/10).

We’ve both been big Warriors fans and Stephen Curry is our favorite player. I met my wife in Washington State about 16 years ago. She just happened to be born in my same hometown in the Bay Area (Vallejo). She didn’t live there long, but she still has a lot of family there.. so when I visit my family in the Bay Area, we visit her family too. I also get to share being a Bay Area & Seattle sports fan with her. It’s funny how things happen.. lol.

I initially wanted the 2009 Exquisite Auto, but my wife didn’t like how Curry is in his college jersey and the photo was small. We both agreed on the Classics because it’s an on-card auto, numbered to /499, and he is in a throwback Warriors jersey with an action photo.

We first saw it on eBay, then noticed it was a Dave & Adams listing. We bought it from their website instead, so I avoided paying tax, got to use a $5 coupon code, got free shipping, and they threw in a cello pack of 2020 Prizm!

It’s just arrived yesterday. Thanks for looking!

Thanks for the kind words! I appreciate it.

Sounds funny, but every time we drive down to Portland to watch a Warriors game, Lillard drops 50+ points and the Warriors lose. We think we’re bad luck.. lol. My wife did get Stephen Curry’s autograph (on the bill of a hat) one time we went (at the tunnel after his pre-game warm up).

I wife comes from a family that is big in investments, so she enjoys cards that have a really good chance at increasing it’s value (even though I rarely sell my cards). She once bought my 40th bday present when I was 38 years old because she didn’t want to buy the card at a higher price when I turn 40.. so she bought it 2 years earlier and held on to it until I turned 40. She was right, the price of the card almost doubled when I turned 40. It was a 1951 Bowman Mickey Mantle RC (PSA 1)

Congrats on the 12th year anniversary!! Congrats on the awesome pick-up!!

Pretty awesome that your wife supports your hobby!! Pretty awesome that she took the time to research Mantle (differentiating between the 51 Bowman and 52 Topps, learning about how some of the latter were dumped into the ocean, etc).

Perfect anniversary gift! Great card. That auto is as bold and blue as the day it was signed.

I grew up closer to Oakland, so I grew up as an A’s & Warriors fan. At the time, the Raiders were in Los Angeles, so I never became a Raiders fan. I didn’t mind SF teams, but I was never a die hard SF fan. My whole family are Giants & 49ers fans. When I moved to Seattle, I started liking football more and became a Seahawks fan. I’ve had season tickets since 2005. When Ichiro arrived in Seattle, I started following the Mariners too.. so I am now an Oakland & Seattle fan. Funny because they’re usually in the same division.. lol.

Are you shopping for your 15th anniversary and 45th bday now? =) The time is ripe! Again, great gift! I'm in the same boat, I ended buying my wife a Tiffany's ring for our 15th anniversary which isn't until next year. Had to lock into the price otherwise, their jewelry cost keeps going up.

Seems like everything is going up in price everyday.. haha! Happy 15 year anniversary in advance! More & more couples don’t make it to 15 years anymore, so 15 years is an accomplishment. I hope you have have many more wonderful anniversaries together!

Did you pull anything out of the prizm pack that you got or are you keeping it sealed? Awesome card and to have a wife that understands cards is a rare thing. My wife understands that I am able to have fun with my collecting and also make some money. She always tells me “I am glad you spend money on cards as opposed to spending money sitting in a bar or something”.

Funny! My wife kind of says the same thing. She said she is glad I’m just into sports cards and not an alcoholic, drug addict, gambler, cheater, or a husband always out with his friends.

I actually opened the pack. I let our son open the big pack inside and my wife opened the “red, white, & blue” pack.

We got a Silver Giannis and a Green Payton Pritchard

How much did the card cost? I've been eyeing some curry autos as well and trying to gauge prices.
