Default MetaZoo....megathread

So what is everyone's thoughts on the new TCG. Got a couple 1st edition booster box just a couple weeks ago at 350 a box, to hold for the very long term. That is my game plan. Curious to see what others think of the product and any game plans with how to collect this new game.

I'm very excited for what becomes of MetaZoo. I picked up a bunch of product at retail, sold approximately half to cover initial cost and realize a pretty nice gain (the cards/wax are liquid). I'm sitting on 3 booster boxes, 2 spellbooks, 2 theme decks, 2 release decks and 4 blister packs.

I wish I picked up some kickstarter/sample cards months ago as well as a kickstarter box or Red Ink card.

I'm looking forward to the next release (Nightfall). The pack art is nice, the booster boxes are supposed to have some glow in the dark feature and I'm pretty sure the artwork (for cards) will be just as good as Cryptid Nation.

I didn't even know they already had a second set coming out. Just looked at some of the preview art, looks dope. Will definitely get some of these boxes straight from Meta and not the after market this time, or will at least try.

I also do love the art I've seen of the cards. Really excited for this new game. Although I don't play TCGs and that is my slight worry. Is the TCG actually going to hold up?

i purchased a holo/ reserve holo mothman and a few others during the kickstarter release on ebay. Only reason i purchased is i noticed every mothman holo being bought at bin i believe at 1.05k. I decided that a whale or whales were making moves. I decided to buy some "just in case".

I don't know if the game is good. The art is okay. The founder seems to want to do everything at once instead of focusing on the game mechanics. I believe the kickstarter full holos are 833 print run. Neutral on the game and concept.

I saw this at Nationals. It was so bad and there was zero buzz around their booth when I walked by a few times but then it was a Sport Cards Show. It just reminded me of a knockoff of Pokemon early on with much worse art.

Rudy with AI has been involved in pushing it some so I think that will help it a little but I'm staying far far away from it.

Yeah, I believe release day is 10/20. The artwork is pretty sweet. I don’t know if MZ will be selling booster boxes but the set will be printed a lot more than the original set so check-in with your LCS/LGS. Some preorders (both legit and fake) are starting to pop up right now.

Many people don’t play Pokémon and we see what that’s done. No clue if the game will hold up, haven’t played it myself but will start to learn soon. I know some people who are playing it though. But many are definitely collecting and holding sealed.

Some LGS are holding MZ events too (101s, tournaments, etc).

Nice grab! Wish I got involved earlier to take advantage of the earlier prices, Red Ink, KS holos and sample cards. Maybe even a KS booster box.

A lot has changed since then. Demand has significantly increased. Seeing a lot of Pokémon people starting to adopt MZ from a collecting standpoint (and let’s be real, early Pokémon images were poo).

Rudy was actually skeptical of MZ, I believe.

But yeah, it’s not for everyone. You do you

Darn, metazoo gets a thread and FaB doesnt? Come on man.

Metazoo is fantastic. It actually has a great gameplay mechanic as well. Great for collectors and looks like a solid brand. Hope it continues strong.

It has a shot to break into the top 5 tcg’s. That said, it is catering to the Pokémon fandom. The IP of poke was established before first edition. Metazoo is trying to be a jack of all trades. With merchandise and etc. I would prefer if the founder would focus on the game mechanics and lore.

The positive is that the supply is very limited. It just needs a little fraction of Pokémon money to flow to metazoo to see more exponential growth. Rooting for them to find there tcg niche

Boxes are starting to really creep up as supply is dwindling. A lot more people are really getting into this game.

Are people even playing the game? To me this looks like a bunch of investors buying out inventory to keep sealed and create a "false" demand. Probably hoping this is the next Pokemon Base Set. I could be wrong, but something isn't right when there are more videos of investing in the boxes than ripping packs open/playing strategies.

More people are certainly getting involved in this TCG but what's also contributing to the increase in prices is that the product essentially stopped restocking (locally and via distributor) at MSRP. With stable demand and a lot of breaking (including pack rip and shippers), prices are only going to increase. Also, there were only 2500 Kickstarter boxes and 25000 1st edition boxes to begin with (not much supply).

People are playing the game but you're right in that the majority are collecting for artwork and/or holding as investments. But then again, not many people play Pokemon and we know where that's it. If it means anything, local card/game stores are holding events to teach people about it (including small little tournaments too). You can even play it via MZ discord too, pretty cool ya?

I almost bought 1st ed boxes here locally. Then decided not to. I kept seeing singles and boxes for sale but no one actually playing the game. No local meets for games, no tournaments. The most intriguing thing about metazoo for me was the absence of game chatter. Nothing about strategy or game play. All the hype and news I keep hearing is the flipping/investment side and the art work. Nothing else.

So I decided not to buy any 1st edition but rather buy the limited sample cards /100 with stamps. Even they have now become way to expensive. But at least I know they are much more rare.

It is going up quick. Bought more boxes from Blowout for $500 last week. Next day they went to $600. Few days later $650. Now sold out.

With all the influencers talking about it and everyone jumping in prices are rising quick.

I got a few boxes a month ago.

Boxes are going way to high though imo

If you want to put money into this

I would buy Kickstarter singles.

If this keeps going strong. Some day this stuff will be so limited compared to all the rest that is coming out in the future

This product is straight doodoo. I feel like it's a bunch of "investors" hyping this to other "investors" and they are pretty much playing a game of hot potato and you just don't want to be the last person holding a box of this junk and it's getting high enough where I think that is the case.

Artwork is childlike and it says something about the game when the subreddit has only 1.8k people in it....

When Rudy, Slabstox and SCI are all hyping it you know you are getting taken. Only person missing now is Gary V.

That explains part of it (increased demand).

Additionally, 1st edition Cryptid Nation is no longer restocking at MSRP (sold out) so that's another key factor (no additional supply coupled with strong demand). Congrats on securing more before the price jump!

Considering all factors, there's still a lot more room for sealed booster boxes. Only 2,500 KS 1st edition CN booster boxes and 25,000 non-KS 1st edition CN booster boxes were produced. That's not a lot and we're only 2 months in post-CN release. Imagine in a year, 2 years, etc.

Sealed booster boxes captures a wider audience than KS singles (because some people really don't care about KS). With that said, I do agree with you that owning such limited cards can be a very good play long-term should MZ thrive. Albeit risky, I'd even say that a KS booster box or Red Ink would be the way to go.

Lol, this has to be you (see image below). Don't be mad that MZ has been taking away some attention from Pokemon (to be fair, recently, Pokemon has been brick city). The ship hasn't sailed yet, you can still board the cruise to paradise

And you also forgot to mention Logan Paul! Can't wait for that one!!

I get the hype of metazoo is crazy and prices are up

But at the national I saw 100 tables with pokemon. Tons of it .. none of them play the game
My son and all his friends collected and none played the game
The huge boom in prices is because of people who don’t play the game

So the reason makes no sense .. that nobody plays metazoo

Also a rip on the product is art is child like. The art and creatures are done this way on purpose ..

I have very little metazoo and I’m interested in seeing what happens. Very interesting

Have a booster box of Nightfall preordered.

I won’t play the game but I’m a big fan of the art and the concept behind the urban legend, myth, lore creatures AKA “beasties” in the game.

So from a collector standpoint I love it
