A lot of Trout haters here, that's for sure. Guys who I have seen talking up Trout in other threads for years and now bashing. Personally, I would not spend a lot of my time & energy in a thread of a player I don't like or don't believe in collecting but to each their own.

As for his cards, I cant think of many other modern players that I would want to put my money in aside from vintage guys. When his Update cards were at $500, people kept saying that was too much. They they went up to $900. More people kept saying that was too much. All for those same people would jump on a 2011 Update at $900. His prices just continue to go up. For those who are flippers, I wouldn't recommend buying his cards but for those who are actual true collectors, I would recommend to buy his cards all day long.

Pujols is another who comes to mind. What has he done is the last 10 years besides slowly hitting Home Runs. His legs haven't worked in years. He doesn't even attempt to run the ball out when going to first. His Topps RC Chrome was sitting for years and years at under $400. Then in the last two years, it has now finally reached the $3K mark. Can you imagine a Trout card like the 2011 Update which is at 3K already, what it would be valued at in about 8 more years time? I would say easily 8K or more. All these folks who claim that 3K is still too much today will wish they would have bought at todays prices. Why wont they? Because they can't flip it. They are not true collectors or in cards for the long haul and it's quite sad to see but again, to each their own. Me, I'm holding and still actively pursuing.

Best position player in baseball prior to this season's injury, will still be the best position player in baseball whenever he comes back. At least 1 more MVP on the way. Not worried.

He's not even the best player on his team anymore.

Why be so polarizing and say “haters”? Nobody hates Trout.

Lucky for Trout owners that Ohtani is not 20 years old or else he'd get dumped like an ageing gf for the new hot thing.

People are expecting the 2011 Update Trout to jump from $3000 to $8000 in 8 years?

Sure, if inflation halves the value of a dollar.

Considering they were almost $8k in February, I don't see why that's unreasonable if the injury issues go away.

High inflation is of course a possibility.

Will make those “COVID investments” look pretty foolish.

I’d expect a couple more years of peak-ish hitting numbers, then a late career performance and pricing lull similar to a lot of HOFers.
I wouldn’t expect his cards to fall off a cliff unless the performance is Pujols/Miggy level.
That said this hobby has a way of pushing money to the “next” guy in the twilight of most prolific careers.

If you want to look at February as a realistic goal to reach again, have at it.

How about March-April when they were consistently in the $4500-$5000 range? If you bought then, that's only 7.4% annual return to get to $8k in 8 years. Pretty weak for sports cards.

All I know is, I have a 5 figure investment / collection value in Trout, with an average ROI of about a 500% based on today’s prices.
I would NEVER sell now, and miss out on the 2000% ROI likely 15-20 years from now

What I do requires patience and faith— I have both with Trout

And if he doesn't bounce back it could easily be 800 or less. I remember when UD Griffey RCs were 150 raw. After his injuries and decline they were 20. Update Trout is not a rare card, the downside is a lot more than the upside at this point.

There's no reason for them to go up that much.
Baseball is dying.
White people are dying.
There might be better players in that 15-20 year window.
He can't do anything extraordinary to be that wanted in the future.

More likely people will look back and say why did we pay so much for a .300 30hr 100 rbi player.

I usually take some slight enjoyment out of your posts but this is just straight up dumb.

I do not think many of the people here are bashing Trout. There are plenty of people here and in MLB itself that worship at the altar of Mike Trout. MLB for years has attempted to make Mike Trout their Tom Brady. You have fans and collectors who attempt to place him next to or above the likes of Ruth, Gehrig, Williams, Aaron, Mays almost as quickly as his career started.

Many of the collectors/investors that pump Trout are simply motivated by their investment in his cards. Fans do so because they are fans. But, they both seem to have in common a disdain for anyone attempting to say anything other than Trout is a baseball god. For the collectors/investors there is a fear that any kind of talk that doesn't resemble godlike worship of Trout might impact the value of his card.

Many of us simply are just attempting to inject some reality into the equation from a simple baseball perspective. We think Trout is a great player who will most likely make the Hall of Fame but so far in his career, his greatest asset is a very questionable stat line used to inflate his status which is WAR. His other greatest asset is the fact he has made so much money playing the game. His impact on his team's ability to win thus far has been completely negligible. His stats are solid but not the thing of legends.

People will continue to inflate Mike Trout due to their own personal investment in Mike Trout. Whether they are a fan, a collector, or the MLB needing their Tom Brady like face of the game we will continue to see Trout immortalized long before he deserves it.

I do agree. Maybe not as low as $800, but certainly potential for being much lower than where they are today.
