I spoke too soon. Anything but an easy deal.

This phone is stolen. Refund requested.

While I will not belabor the issue, I feel some obligation to briefly describe this transaction as a cautionary tale.

OP said he won the iPhone in an Elks lodge raffle. iPhone was delivered promptly, but I then had difficulty getting it activated although it was not initially listed as stolen. Eventually, I discovered the iPhone's IMEI was tied to someone's active Verizon account (not OP).

Through some cursory investigative work, I actually spoke with the person who had purchased the iPhone. That person had previously lived at OP's current residence, moved out, and mistakenly had the phone delivered to their old address. In short, OP opened their mail and sold me a stolen iPhone. OP was fortunate because the phone/IMEI slipped through Verizon's cracks and had not been logged as lost/missing/stolen.

The original purchaser (and myself) had to contact Verizon, after which they listed the phone as lost/stolen and on a block list of devices which cannot be activated. I asked OP to clarify where the iPhone came from, and was told he won it in a raffle in a Facebook group...

OP has been a BO member in good standing for a long time. Once confronted, OP did send refund quickly and admitted the error of his ways, which I genuinely appreciate.

I have no desire to engage in a soap opera, but also do not want anyone else to lose hours of their weekend in a similar goose chase. Best wishes to all, and stay safe.

OP, how do you win it in a raffle but it was mistakenly sent to your address by the previous resident by mistake?

In the end, he did admit the error of his ways and sent refund. My intention is not to shame, however I did feel some notice was appropriate.

He didn't want to get arrested and lose his job! Of course he's remorseful now. OP committed a felony and at least one misdemeanor, and this is the second time this week someone has been scammed with a stolen phone in this subforum. You definitely did the right thing posting here and negging him in iTrader regardless of his history here, but shaming this guy should be the least of his worries!

It's really hard to feel bad for these guys, honestly. I don't know him, or of him, but if a person is willing to do this what else are they willing to do? Why here? Why try and sell it to us and not some community he's not actively a part of? What if the person he scammed wasn't as savvy as you and just ended up totally screwed?

This is disgusting behavior coming from an apparent member of the military. Who can you trust on this forum if not someone with as much positive iTrader feedback as him? Ugh.

This sounds pretty bad IMO.

Sold me an iPhone he stole. I've spent a lot of time sorting it out, filing PP claim, and trying to get my $725 refunded...which is still pending.

You didn’t have to file a claim. I went and refunded from the transaction immediately. I’ve also showed you a screen shot of it being taken out of my account. I don’t know if it’s still pending because of the claim or what. I’m trying to figure that out now.

I filed the PP claim upon discovering the phone was stolen and before funds were refunded.

Given the circumstances, my reasons for doing so were understandably self-evident. I appreciate any of your efforts to return my money, but should not even have been necessary.

He absolutely did have to file a claim; you sold him a phone that you stole.

The audacity to be frustrated with the buyer after what you did...ban this clown.

This is your only comment in the thread after what the buyer posted? I guess since it's 100% true you have nothing to say?

I would imagine the buyer would have to press criminal charges for the military to do anything, and I wish to God he would.

At least he didn’t get a better offer and rescind the transaction.....this time.

Two big “whoops” = ban.

We call lying and stealing “mistakes” now?

The main question is how are you still on here?

That part is no mystery. UCMJ treats these kind of issues a bit more harshly than in the civilian world.
