Default The Official Luis Robert Thread

Yep—rngrdanny nailed it. There’s plenty of reasons why the cards are graded the way they are—people rightly pegged Robert as a 2021 breakout—so they flooded their early 2021 subs with Robert. Ohtani was somewhat in bust territory heading into 2021 so the sub slots went to Robert—then PSA shut down BEFORE Ohtanimania exploded. Hence the pop reports. But my point was that both were Topps series 2 base set releases as “the hit” rookie in an otherwise thin set. Both cards are in all factory sets.

Once the Robert supply thins, you’ll see a bump—then S2 will see a bump. The real main difference between 2018 & 2020 S2 wax is Bat Down. But rookie for rookie, I actually think Ohtani will pass Robert on pop reports sooner or later.

How many is a ton?

Is your argument is that you think the POP of the Ohtani RC is going to approach anywhere near the LouBob RC grading count? On print run alone there is a factor of what, at least 2x?

I'm not arguing it won't go up -- but I don't think it will approach.

Ohtani 2018 S2 will easily blow by Robert 2020 S2. He may be the most subbed athlete once PSA fully reopens. I’m talking all sports.

Checking out Robert’s game log this season is wild. Look at the number of multi hit games and the number of games he has hit safely in.

I’m a giant fan of consistency rather than guys that hit a bunch in short bursts and go cold for stretches. Clearly he has made some big adjustments this year.

If he keeps this approach, he is going to be a lethal hitter.

Bomb already today. He is now batting 0.378 over 35 games since coming back from a major injury. That's pretty incredible.

Hopefully the Indians keep Civale in to eat soem innings because everyone is teeing off on him.

Edit: Dangit, he just knocked Civale out with a 900 mph single off the center field wall. He ended up with a single because he wasn't running very hard, but I'm not sure he would've made second regardless. Ball was off wall and in CF hand in literally 3 seconds.

I feel like Robert hasn't been running at full speed since he came back which probably makes sense with the injury he had. 1 SB since returning. I've noticed on some of his doubles he'll just be strolling casually into 2nd as the ball comes back into the infield. No interest in triples. I think he's taking it a bit easy and since he's raking no reason to risk injury this late in the reg season

Just got this scanned in my COMC port last night. I got caught bidding without checking the description and realized after I won, that it had a couple of scratches on the front. Oh well, still a nice card for the PC!

My thoughts exactly, he will do what’s needed but not take unnecessary risks.

Good point. He is going full speed in the outfield, but that is probably just instinct taking over.

Curious, if this is a PC Card why would you send it out for someone else to store? Or maybe I’m not understanding what comc is/does, if so, my bad

I live in Canada but the majority of US sellers don't ship up here so I have to use COMC to have them ship it to, and then I bundle it all up and ship it up here to my home

Or they don’t know how to put a 7$ card into a 50 cent bubble mailer and charge 4 bucks for shipping.

Luis Robert has been great, but I'm definitely getting a Yasiel Puig 2013 vibe from him.

Robert only has 9 homers with a 4.2% walk rate and .424 BABIP in 262 PAs. His chase rate is well above average -- 38.4% vs 27.6%.

Puig's first 289 PAs in 2013: 11 HR, .351/.412/.556, .440 BABIP, 8% BB, 23.5% K, 36% chase rate

Robert's first 262 PAs in 2021: 9 HR, .355/.393/.559, .424 BABIP, 4.2% BB, 20.2% K, 38.4% chase rate

One statistically similar year maybe, but I don’t get the Puig mentality vibe from Robert though.

That’s a really significant missing component in that comparison in the realm of career trajectory.

Puig was a ticking time bomb and a diva. Robert seems to be very even keel. The fact he came back from his injury and is mashing says a lot. Puig seemed to be very erratic a lot of times emotionally.

Luckily Robert doesn't have Puig's brain in his head. Puig was the only thing that stopped Puig from being a great player.
