Default Guardians of the Galaxy + Avengers + Old Boxes Recap

A couple people on UD epack have asked me to share these somewhere public.

I've been breaking old boxes of MCU/Legacy Marvel during this pandemic/shutdown. I wasn't collecting when all these originally released, so it was a pleasure to just be able to break some.

I'm starting with Thor Dark World from Spring, 2020 and will work my way to this weekend when I opened GOTG and Avengers: AOU. I bought all these over time and usually 1-3 boxes at a time from variety of online sellers.

Here is the summary of each post:
14 - Thor: Dark World
7 - Spider-man 3
5 - Captain America: Civil War
3 - Ant-Man
3 - Guardians of the Galaxy
1 - Avengers: Age of Ultron

This break thread will include my favorite card pull to date and separately probably my best hobby box pull to date. Also, it was cool to pull some sketch characters currently on UD's ban list. Hope you enjoy!

Update:
Adding 1 box - Avengers Assemble

Enjoy!

I'm thinking Tom Hiddelston.

Default 14 box - Thor Dark World

The main signer I was chasing was Hiddleston, since I had Hemsworth autos from Ragnarok and Infinity War. Overall probably favorite product I've opened since started collecting. I got 5 extra hits if you count the plate than 6.

Summary:
3 actor autos
12 sketches
4 comic autos
1 plate
and bunch those cool plexi cards(not photo'ed). It was 2 plexi cards per box. Compare this to something like Spider-man Far From Home when 1 plexi card is the box hit.

Box 1 - Pack 1 - couldn't believe it when saw it. This is basically what got me hooked on breaking old... maybe should of quit while I was ahead

Single Relics: # hit - Character
2 - Erik Selvig
2 - Darcy Lewis - This relic card was thicker than rest.
1 - Jane Foster
3 - Lady Sif
3 - Loki
3 - Odin

Dual Relics: No duplicates. Darcy/Jane relic was thick.

Triple Relics: 1 duplicate. I hit Thor/Odin/Loki twice which if I had to pick one triple to hit twice, I'd pick this one.
The Thor/Jane/Darcy relic was thick. The Thor swatch is some thick leather.

Quad Relics + 1 Dual I missed earlier: My favorite relic pull from Dark World Thor/Loki/Jane/Odin

Comic Autos:
1) Roy Thomas / Keith Pollard and 2) Matt Fraction / Dan Brereton

3) Matt Fraction / Stuart Immonen and 4) Mike Carey / Mike Perkins

Sketches: I think only 2 or 3 of these were signed on the back. Overall I think the Tony Santiago ones are pretty sharp. The Ghost was cool to hit because even though I've opened tons of Ant-man and the Wasp I still didn't have a Ghost sketch. The Fantastic Four banned characters were cool to pick up. I imagine they will be removed from the banned list once F4 comes out in few years.

David Hindelang, Jovenal Mendoza, No signature front or back
Tony Santiago, Tony Santiago, The last thor has a Signature bottom right. I think I figured this one out but forgot.
No signature front or back , Ghost signature is below? Help?, Diana Greenhalgh

Donald Crank, Chris Foreman, Eric Van Elslande

This is the Ghost artist signature. Anyone

Actor Autos:
After pack one(Hemsworth above)... it took until box 9 or 10 until I saw another actor auto again... Jaimie Alexander

I always open packs and look at edges of cards. Thick cards(usually relic) I save to the end. Build the suspense. It was awesome to have one box where I knew I had 3 relics but no auto or sketch hit yet. Relic auto

Plate:

I believe the ghost signature is Mike Vasquez, if I'm remembering his work/signature correctly.

Default 7 box Spider-man 3

You ever buy a product and hit 'the one' card you wanted?? This is my favorite pull to date. Stan Lee

Overall this product is great since it has a bunch of nice signers. There are some chase inserts, but overall its 40 packs per box, but 2 autos per box. Its a lot of base... a lot

A couple other fun ones
Tobey Maguire
James Franco
Elizabeth Banks

Avi Arad - his resume is pretty impressive.
Mageina Tovah - Little bunny inscription
Bill Nunn
Elyse Dinh
2x Jack Betts
3x Brent Briscoe. I stopped breaking Spidey 3 once I hit 3 hit three these lol
Jayce Bartok

Relic was purchased and not a box hit. I believe it was some case incentive.

Default 5 boxes - Captain America: Civil War

Before you scroll past the relics...

There is a low/high emotion swing for this break. I first opened 3 boxes of Civil War. Box 1 had 3 thick cards. What did I say in Thor Dark World??? Relic Auto NOPE... count them below... 11 relics = 3+2+2+2+2. Box 1 was a 3 relic box no auto or sketch . I went from being totally excited to totally bummed. Box 2... you can scroll and guess what happened ... huge fist pump.

Single Relics:

Multi Relics:

Comic Auto:
Kieron Dwyer

Actor Autos:
Frank Grillo

Jeremy Renner and my best hobby box pull to date*

*I'm excluding epack since its not the same feeling as pulling a card in person. The Stan Lee above I did a ton of fist pumps and couldn't sit lol. Epack does have other benefits so I'm trying to balance.

Default 3 boxes of Ant-man

I like the relics in this one. Autos are apparently insanely hard. Price point isn't to bad compared to the other products you can find. If you are looking for a Lilly I think AMW is better product. Pena would of been my chase auto in this product.

Single Relics:

Multi Relics: I like the 'ANT' 'THOR' 'AAOU' and 'GOTG' relics. That is a cool idea. Bummed UD stopped this in new products.

Sketches:
Kate Carleton Egghead is pretty fun. "I forget" who N'E'rP is

Auto:
Rod Hallett - Got the hard auto out of the way

Default 3 Boxes - Guardians of the Galaxy

This is the start of this weekends breaks:

Box 1:

Couple nice relics and oversized box topper.

Box Hit: Comic Auto - Andy Lanning and Brad Walker

Box 2:

Couple more nice relics and oversized box topper.

Box Hit: Sketch - Babisu Kourtis

Box 3:

3 thick cards...

Peeked edges and pulled out the relics. Really like the Gamora, Nebula and Ronan. The textures and colors on these relics from GOTG are nice.

Peeking the hit... like the color of the card edge... Should be an auto

Double check the GOtG wardrobes when you get time, if you haven't already. Some of those were crazy rare and sold really well.

Default 1 Box - Avengers Age of Ultron

Relics are good size in this set. Happy to get quicksilver and hawkeye since didn't have either of them outside MCU10 set.

Mike Legan sketch of Loki... looks like he is up to something .

Well thanks for looking folks!!! This was a ton of fun to break and actually fun to go back photo/share. Hopefully Upper Deck will bring back relics like you see in these earlier products into future products. Wandavision could be fun set to get some relics with all the costumes from each era.

I would of been pumped to pull her full auto from GOTG1. I cannot say I've ever seen one of her GOTG1 hit ebay since I've been collecting. I did pull one of her full sigs from a Star Trek Beyond box during this pandemic

Hiddleston would of probably bumped the Evans for me. Its tough. Civil War was Chris Evans first product he signed. Pulling one these signers that hasn't signed in forever would of been great. Fingers crossed for a Loki set and Hiddleston signs. I did purchase Dark World Hiddlestons to fill out the collection, but would of been awesome to pull one myself.

I'll have to go back and check some the original BO threads and see if someone posted SPs. Very unlikely I sell any of these any time soon. I pretty much keep what I break hobby box.

Amazing run of top autos, congrats. I'm lucky to have one of the 1st Thor set Hiddleston autos. Got it as a replacement from UD for an Endgame box that was hitless.

Just periodic searching on several online sites I don't think I can list here. The biggest hurdle is getting past talking yourself out of it once you find something because of the price point, possible expired redemptions(which you probably should avoid ie. Infinity War Brolin/Hemsworth were redemptions and are expir-ed/ing soon) or this mentality ... "these boxes must be left overs from a case that was searched". I found watching old youtube breaks, searching old break threads on here, and rewatching the movie got me in the right frame to buy 😁.

So many awesome cards!! Thanks for sharing the box breaks!

Love that Stan Lee Spiderman 3 auto the best -- if you ever consider selling or trading it, let me know, I'd be very interested

Default 1 box - Avengers Assemble

Adding a new box to the old MCU box breaks. Avengers Assemble! Product had some nice signers. Each box has a sketch and I think 2 relics(or 1 relic and 1 plate). I think autos were 2 per case, so about 1 in 6 boxes.

Here is box and pack images:

I really like the quad relic, 4 of 6 Avengers! Good dual relic for me. I don't have a Whiplash or Justin Hammer relic, so those are new for me.

The sketch is Scarlet Witch by I believe artist Uko Smith

Things are definitely drying up. Really hard to find boxes.

What a blast from the past, thanx for sharing!
I just met Uko Smith for the first time last week at Rhode Island Comic Con and got a commission from him.

Happy to share!! Oooh thats cool! He does really great stuff art wise. His sketches vary set to set. I think he is still doing UD sketches for Marvel too.
