With every team between 15 to 18 games in, we are beginning to see the players making a difference in their teams. Who do you guys see making the ASG? Here are my picks:
East Embiid Giannis KD LaVine LaMelo Butler DeRozan Bam Tatum Trae Harden Beal West Jokic LeBron Luka Mitchell Curry AD KAT Gobert PG13 Booker CP3 Ja

Zero chance Dame misses, either as a function of him heating up or fan voting.
Avatar bets welcome.

If miles Bridges keeps up what he's been doing they'll probably reward him with a nod, knocking out bam or beal

My biggest question:
If the Lakers hover around .500, do they get a 2nd All-Star? If Golden State keeps winning, will they get a 2nd All-Star? Could present an interesting scenario, Andrew Wiggins sneaking in over Anthony Davis???

Depends if you have to pick a center, or if it's just frontcourt.
Because, despite how overrated he appears, Tatum will surely be voted as a starter, with Giannis and KD if the latter. Giannis KD Tatum Lamelo Harden Are probably the East starters due to popularity (ridiculous in the case of Harden, but you know....). In the West right now I'd assume it's gonna be: Jokic Davis LeBron Luka Curry Again, moreso popularity than anything. The subs are the really interesting point, because people who deserve it are gonna miss out. |

Agreed. I think both Bridges actually have a shot with Miles having the easier route. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I’ll be interested to see what happens with the Lakers. They as a team certainly don’t “deserve” 2 spots. Re: GS getting 2. Hell yes. Draymond will get in if things continue as they are. Only question for me is whether they’d get 3 (with Wiggins as the likely candidate). A team this dominant often gets 3 and sometimes 4. And yeah, Wiggins over AD would likely be a major debate should that occur. I should say, as much as I think AD is playing far worse than his best, it’s hard for me to swallow putting in Wiggins over him. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Agree. I will say that as Harden’s numbers have started going up, and with the Nets having a good record, I think it pretty unlikely he missed out, though I don’t think he’s been one of the 12 most effective players in the East to this point. For Tatum I see him as a borderline guy so long as the story of the Celtics remains one of failure. He could miss and voters wouldn’t feel too hesitant about it, but there need to be enough other great performances because Tatum is still clearly an all-star level performer. Kind of a wild card prediction here but my sleeper pick for the Eastern Conference is John Collins.
Definitely a potential candidate for a reserve spot...putting together a solid season and although Hawks had a slow start to the year, I think they'll be above .500 again soon. |

One of the interesting trends we are seeing to start the year are bench units carrying poor starting units.
The most egregious of the bunch is NY, where the Randle-led starters are a train wreck but the Rose-led second unit is fire. I bring this up because it makes us ask philosophical questions about what makes an all-star - other than popularity. If you tend to want to focus on successful play, then Rose should be the main all-star candidate for the Knicks (rather than Randle, who is literally the focal point of the team)…but he’s not just playing limited minutes, he’s playing disproportionally against weaker competition. And if you switched the Randle units with the Rose units, it’s entirely possible that whichever one came off the bench would be the successful one. In terms of other examples, the next most glaring is Washington where Beal is the team’s star but Harrell has been their most effective. The most eyebrow-furrowing though is Dallas, where it’s been the Brunson-led second unit that’s been carrying Luka. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Is Kat really in consideration here? He's a talented player for sure but he didn't make it the last 2 years with similar numbers to what he's putting up this year and the TWolves are mediocre as usual.

TWolves were dialed in tonight vs Heat. Problem for KAT is that he is clearly now the second banana on this team to Edwards, and there is no way the wolves get 2 all stars, even if KAT has all star level talent. |

Are we talking about who we think should be in, of who we think will get voted in?
Starters for the West should be: Nikola Jokic Paul George Draymond Green Steph Curry CP III |

AD making it would be a joke.

Actually, AD making it and being forced into the 3 pt contest would be hilarious.

I love the concept of Lebron not being voted in. But unfortunately that seems unlikely, whether deserved or not. |

Trae should be East starter, I think he's likely the best PG in the East now

Perhaps that’s a true statement, but that’s just a testament to the weakness of the position in the East. Trae is shooting 43% from the field and 35% from 3p - both are bad shooting percentages. And he monopolizes the whole offensive flow with 32% Usage (5th in the league). That’s inefficient. And 112 defensive rating means he is still a liability... I’d take Lamelo as best PG in the East. |
