Default Go home Panini, you're drunk

Panini's been dumping stickers most of the year, so I was surprised to see them include a new signer. It's a pretty obscure name, too. Check out these very similar designs that come from different products. That in itself is pretty lazy.

If that wasn't bad enough, the photo isn't even Shumate. It's Mike Mitchell.

The photo they used was mislabeled in Getty Images, but there were 4 others that were labeled correctly. Even with little to no effort, they had an 80% chance to get it right.

Mitchell is being guarded by Clark Kellogg in the pic they chose - Kellogg was drafted after Shumate's final NBA game.

It's only gonna get worse now that they're officially a lame duck.

I detailed some of the other photo goofs in a video that can be found here:

Difference between bad quality control and putting out a product that says “we don’t give a #@#@#@#@, you’re going to buy this anyway.”

This was an example I have mentioned/posted about in the past of wrong picture/wrong player:

2006/07 Bowman Sterling Lynn Greer

The photo is actually of Chris McCray

Good catch!

Someone else sent me this one this morning. They believe this player is Loy Vaught and not Lorenzen Wright.

Lmao. WTF are they doing putting Schumate autos in a single product, let alone two? I don't know if it's possible for them to be any worse. Truly a horrible company.

One of my favorite photo blunders. They got it right in the foreground pic but the background is definitely not Olowokandi. Olowokandi might be known as one of the worst #1 picks of all time, but at the time this was released you'd think they would have paid a little more attention to detail on the #1 picks card.

(It's Maurice Taylor in the background pic I believe)

Exactly this isn’t even a QC issue (although they fail in that department too), this is a lazy/out of touch problem.

Panini has proven time and again they aren’t concerned with brand/set legacy or developing their products. These examples above show how much they just don’t GAF. There is no labor of love.

Hobby savviness doesn’t exist at Panini Hq

I don’t mind autos like this if it’s in a legends-theme set - like 2011-12 past & present or an all legends set with an insert for each decade where they can put obscure role guys ... the problem is there’s no theme in the set to have a random role player from 30 years ago in it. It’s mind boggling silly. It’s like having Greg Monroe sticker autos in some random release 30 years from now. Silly.

It's an odd inclusion, but it's nice to have someone different every once in a while. The real problem is the picture isn't actually John Shumate.

If we're sharing cards with photos of wrong players, here's one that most of you have probably seen:

Joseph Forte instead of Joe Johnson.

Another reason sticker autos suck.

Poor John Shumate was probably excited to have another card. He signs all these autographs and then finds out they stuck them on a card with Mike Mitchell’s picture on it.

But what do you do when you collect current players and want their cards?

It’s actually Roshown McLeod but yes, this is a very famous blunder!

Not an error like the above, but I feel like someone should see it. They sent some RJ Barrett cards mixed in with all Richard Jeffersons cards to sign. So those are just gone forever I guess. This Probably happens a lot

The RJ Barrett - Richard Jeffersons signed card would be extremely valuable to a certain type of collector.

It's not like this doesn't happen with Topps too.

This tribalism over manufacturers of cardboard with photos on them is hilarious.

I mean, that set is Topps JERSEY Edition, so the background pic is focusing on the jersey... (assuming that's what you're showing here)

Or could be focusing on the fact that it is Milt Palacio, not Amare, that is pictured. You know, pretty much what the entire reason for this thread and examples that have been given have to do with....
