Default Would you buy a RPA card that is NOT player/game worn?

I’m late in knowing this, but none of 2020-21 “RPA” cards are player/game worn. I just found out when I was going to buy a One and One RPA card then looked into all other “RPA” cards. Every one of them say…

“The enclosed officially licensed material is not associated with any specific player, game, or event. The autograph is guaranteed by panini America, inc.”

I’m sure it got to do with COVID, but it makes no sense for a RPA card to exist if it’s not player/game worn. The whole point of the value in patch/jersey card is for it to be player/game worn, but these non player/game worn cards are going for crazy prices for no reason… just doesn’t make any sense as if I am in the bizzaro world. The prices could be low and I’d still rather not buy cause it doesn’t feel right to have in my collection. I’d rather just get a clean auto card with no patch/jersey because that’s basically what these “RPA” cards are,… just autographed cards.. would anyone here buy these “RPA” cards ?

NT RPAs have never been game worn iirc. Only Flawless.

I bought a Halliburton/Maxey logoman. I’m pretty happy with it.

As long as I can secure the bag dumping it off to the next manchild on stockx, I could care less if it emanated from Hackler's bomber jacket.

At least in the past, they were player worn, implying some level of rarity and exclusiveness over a jersey online at fanatics. Now they're no more than a manufactured patch card.

Eventually people will see them as no better than the manufactured logoman patches panini used to make back in the day that are on eBay now for $30.

It may take years to trend, but the actual game used stuff will rise to the top

Non specific game/player worn basura has existed for decades. Refer to the Kobe link. And as far as I know, RPA's continue to be bought and sold. There may be a few purists remaining, but they've been in the minority for awhile.

Looks > provenance.

Hence US divorce rates, breh.

Basically every rookie that matters in the 20-21 has game worn RPA. It's collegiate. As is the Crusade that is arguably the best card design of the class (in its shiny iterations). Or at least until Flux dropped and light years ahead of the pro Crusade.

But haven’t all RPA cards been player/game worn until 2020-21 because of COVID ? But if it’s more for the looks like the Kobe card why even bother having player/game worn cards. Just slap a fabric on the card and call it a day. I don’t even think it got to do with being a purist.. it’s just common sense to see where the value is in these type of cards.. unless you’re like..

I think we'd all prefer game worn. But the trend is clearly in the opposite direction, and the 'hobby' continues to persist. It's garbage, but apparently acceptable garbage...

I'm sure there is a situation in which I would buy one, yes. If I can get me a Haliburton RPA I like the look of (my favorite from 20-21 are the FOTL silhouette RPA and the 2011 throwback NT RPA) for a couple hundred bucks, sure I would do it. Of course, that's never going to happen, so I probably won't ever end up with one.

The COVID excuse was understandable in the first few months of 20-21 releases. But by April or something, I don't know that this excuse necessarily holds up. Certainly by now it's ridiculous that they're still using non game/player worn material. I hope this trend is a one year anomaly.

To flip, sure.

For my PC? No.

I think the “The enclosed officially licensed material is not associated with any specific player, game, or event. The autograph is guaranteed by panini America, Inc" has more to do with Panini not wanting to spend the time or money to get the game used stuff, not bc of COVID.

If it was solely because of COVID, they would have been putting game used stuff in way more products prior to 2020.

Call me a diehard, I would pay extra for an RPA that would infect me with the same Covid strain as my favorite player.

I still like NT, Immaculate, and Flawless, because they’re nice cards. I haven’t even considered buying any other RPA’s this year.

I just can’t fathom buying a RPA that is not even player worn

that’s true.. maybe panini just don’t care cause there hasn’t been any complaints about it. There’s Flawless left but I doubt it’ll be any different

Hate to break it to you, but the Draft/Collegiate products aren’t game worn either.
